Now that I am downsizing and putting myself on a budget, it seems feasible that I can finally save up for a vacation. We haven't had one since 2006; and I can smell spring in the air already - yes! I can!- and it turns my thoughts to things fun.

I have a two part question. Where would you go if you could; and where will you actually go?

I would probably go to Australia if I could; but I will probably settle for a day trip to Assateague this year.

In 2015 I would like to go to the World's Fair in Milan.

Who is up for dreaming with me?

Ireland and Scotland. I dream and dream but know I'll never get there. I just have to be content with the hills and mountains of E. Tenn. :th

I am NOT the typical person. My favorite vacations are nice quiet days in the country with a fishing pole in my hand or a good horse to haul me around on a nice long ride. When we DO get a chance to actually vacation we have turned down a trip to Hawaii with the lodgings and food all paid AND are currently refusing the invitation to go on a cruise at budget prices. Instead we choose to go places like the Cimarron National Grasslands or the Flint Hills in Kansas, where we camp and hike and in general hang out.

I would like to go on a Flint Hills trail ride or another friend of mine went trail riding for two weeks in Nebraska and the Black Hills of South Dakota. I would like to spend time in the winter dessert in Arizona or maybe, just maybe go to the Florida Keys or Puerto Rico to spend part of January.

The exotic place I would go, however, if the world were to turn upside down and the money had no importance would be Iceland. What a beautiful wild country.

This winter there will be no get away. Saving instead. We want to buy a greenhouse and add onto our garage for a wood shed.

Next Summer: Not sure yet. depends on how the economy looks. If we can we are thinking about spending a week on a farm, a real farm.

I am a vacation lover to the max! :)

I am tied down to this farm all the time....literally..LOL
but I love to travel---good thing my inlaws are farmers and when we leave they handle the animals etc. because we all know getting away is hard with tons of animals..LOL

I have a big travel trailer with slides. We go anywhere and everywhere we can for 3-4-5 day trips. As often as we can..LOL

I started tent camping but decided I wanted more since I had my daughter, so up to the big slideout camper. I love this thing!!!

This year is Cherokee for trout fishing in the mts....2 trip to NC beaches, I want to hit somewhere in TN now....and maybe get up to Virginia to hit some caves, and then big fall trip is 10 days in Florida (with one day at DisneyWorld for Nicole)--saving money for that trip now..LOL

And anything else that hits my fancy I can afford..LOL

I love to travel and hit P. Rico, Virgin Islands, Canada for skiing, Bermuda, etc...but that was when younger. Now with a kid and farm it is so hard to do those trips so I want to travel around my area and see all the states and fun I can get locally.

being NC I have alot of states and tons of different locals to visit.

VACATION is a great word! :)
can ya tell I love it.

I am glad to see some travel buffs on here.

I think it's so important for kids to travel - to see that there are different kinds of people, different ways of life. There is a whole big world outside their backyards and I think they need to see some of it.

yes I hear you. Nicole experiences different locals and learns so much.

I can't be bottled up in one place. Is not my nature. I want to seek fun and intersting new adventures.

Wow, why did I become a farmer...LOL....I should have been a world traveller and had a tv show. haha
Darn, I like to ride horses too much.....can't take them travelling very easy

Vacation for us is only a dream. DH can't be further than an hour from his hospital. We've pretty much exhausted everything available within that parameter.

I'd like to visit the Great Serpent Mound in southern Ohio.

I always wanted to go to Iceland. I read the Icelandic Sagas after listening to some operatic pieces and reading the Kalevala. The land seems primordial.

The Brocken Mountain of the Harz in Germany for Walpurgisnacht.

I am a home body....content to stay put

Our most fun vacations have always been some place warm with water...Mexico, Jamaica, camping on local beaches in the summer, river etc.

I am not one for cold. :/

My dream would be Spain.

My realistic vacation...probably camping.

Last year, I went camping at the beach with my granddaughter for an entire week. I researched the history of the central coast of California, including the missions, and did a study on the natural history of the area. We have been going to this area my whole life, but this was the longest trip yet, and one that educated both my DGD and myself!

That week was the longest vacation I had taken since my 31-year old daughter was 13. Usually, it was a two night camping trip every three or four years. Because I am an independent contractor, if I don't work I don't get paid. So...I have to double my income either ahead of or following the time off in order to "make it". Thus, not a lot of vacations!

But if I were able to take one, I have a lifelong dream. I would like to take a year and buzz around North America in a mid sized RV. Vermont in the fall. Alaska and Canada in the summer. The deep south in the spring. Wyoming in the winter. I would like to do historical research on each major destination and all those in between. I also have a wierd notion about visiting oddball attractions such as the largest ball of string and the Cadillacs buried along old Route 66. I am a strange duck.
