It was in 2000. ;)

I was just a kid, but I was predicting the economic crash years before it happened. Smart kid? Maybe. But it makes sense that what goes up must come down. On the bright side (for young, middle age people), it was an opportunity to buy stocks at low prices and watch them grow.

No, no movies or restaurants here. I'm not supporting much of any business at all. I only buy groceries when they are so cheap, the stores can't be making much $$ off me.

I haven't bought any new clothing items at all in over 2 years .. Well, I got one used vest at a thrift store cuz the lady saw me looking at it and said she'd take a lot less.

I think the only new things I've bought in some months now are a turkey baster to pull fat off the goose I cooked 6 weeks ago, some heavy plastic trays at the dollar store that I plan to use for seed starting that will last forever, and a few huge kitchen towels at the dollar store to cut and hem. I got 4 cloth napkins from each one.

Every once in awhile, like every 2 months or so, I treat myself if I find something really pretty at my favorite thrift store. I usually spend $1 but no more than $2 generally on it. I feel like I've gotten something for myself and it costs 50 cents to a dollar a month, and I make sure it's something I absolutely love that will make me smile when I look at it.

No, I'm not exactly stimulating the local economy. I hope to still BE here later though, so you do what you gotta. :)

How about Newspapers? Our local paper has not gone under yet but circulation is WAY down and they have their classifieds on line as well and in print.

People get their news from TV, radio or online these days.
