We have a very small pharmacy in a big-ish institution- the boss (pharmacist), 1 full time pharmacist, 2 part times (me and a guy since I stepped down to part time) 2 full time techs and 1 part time tech. We do birthdays as a nice lunch that we wouldn't normally do and everyone chips in to buy the birthday person's lunch instead of dividing it into singles. So, the most it costs anyone is 2 dollars, even if no one is there (we tend to order out to a really good BBQ take out place for birthdays. Or chinese take out). It works pretty well. We used to be less busy and be able to take long lunches and we would actually go out to a sit-down lunch, but that is not possible anymore simply because it is way too busy to actually take a long lunch. But, the boss and those of us who make more are acutely aware of the finances and we chip in more because we can.
