Here is the house we are working on. Son is trying to match this new roof to the old photo (historical records) of this house.

Here's how far we've gotten:

1823 or there abouts. We have photos from 1838 and 1842 that we got from the Historical Society, but the gggrandson of the original owners has stopped by and offered to let son and wife look at the family albums. The photo shown above is from 1842.

The outside details are a mixture (to me) of Victorian and Scandinavian. Unbelievably for so old a house, the inside had woodwork that has never been painted, fireplaces that have never been closed up, and it's the only building around with all the original chimneys intact.

That's amazing! I love old buildings and I think it must be an absolutely pleasure to restore one to it's former glory.

An absolute pleasure to do; NOT a pleasure to pay for.

Painting the front windows.JPG
The first picture in this thread shows the porch in progress, but the front windows are also shown. Here, the windows are finished with the painting and (hopefully) soon will have siding around them.

I didn't show the finished front door or the painted porch features -- as far as the work as gone.

Siding is to be the lighter green seen on the porch skirting.

Here's where we are now. Son vowed he'd get the front siding on before winter.

See the snow? See the snow fall? Fall, snow, fall. Winter has come early and I'm doubting it's getting any further.

See my DSO and my DOG. Enjoy the dog, love the guy!
