Paul, I love your videos!

I got a custom snath made by Scythe Supply Company in Maine (through the mail) and a ditch blade, which is a bit shorter than the one in your video. I LOOOOVE my scythe! My neighbors have commented on watching me mow my field, which takes me a week but in the end I have hay. My first summer with the scythe I made enough hay to get me almost through December....which saves a lot of money in New England winters. I missed my scythe this summer with the drought. I did get to cut a little in the spring and bring it to my goats for when they were confined to a stall with the kids. I hope I get to mow next summer. It is very soothing, rhythmical work. You get to hear the birds, smell the grass without any gasoline or diesel smells, and I got to know my pasture very well in the process. I made lots of improvements based on this intimate knowledge.

I will give one small criticism of your buddy's technique. He moves the blade from his arms and shoulders, and does not swing his body or move his hips at all. If he had to mow a lot, he would likely injure a shoulder or arm...eventually. I say this as an experienced massage therapist, too. (eta: note the movement in the body of the 14-yr old girl scything on the scytheworks site video)

I LOVE his homemade snath!

I have more footage of him and the snath - I think it is made from black locust.

Paul, I love your videos!
In that case, I would very much like to ask you to help my little videos out.

First, please subscribe to me on youtube and then become my youtube friend.

Next, for each new vid, please give it a thumbs up, add it to your favorites and make a youtube comment on the video.

These things help convince youtube that these videos are better than videos about paris hilton or ... whatsername - the redhead.

Umm.....I don't know what that means....subscribe to you? Huh? :hide
Yup. On a youtube video, there is an option to subscribe. If you subscribe to 20 or 30 folks that make videos, then when you go to youtube, there is a section for new stuff from those folks.

But the weird thing is that if a video is from somebody that has a thousand subscribers, youtube will favor showing it over a video from somebody with five subscribers.

The teeny boppers have mastered this, which is why the youtube home page is loaded with stuff that the teeny boppers like.

I picked up a very nice Austrian scythe for $14 at a farm equipment auction, but have yet to use it. Y'all have inspired me. I'm going to use it to make hay this year.

Thanks for the vid, Paul.
