Walkie Talkies for an emergency??

Many years ago, I was given a cheap pair of Motorola 10mi? I think. They worked good from a mountain top down to my house about 1 mile straight, with some trees and terrain between. But they have since cr*pped out for some unknown reason.

I finally found the book on mine,...they are Midland X-tra Talk LXT460 Series. They have a 24 mile range on them,..but that depends on your terrain like I said. These work real well for the price though and they also have the NOAA weather radio.

I agree with k0xxx though,..the base station would be the best bet for that distance and the cost wouldn't be bad.
