As in maple?? How nice I would love to try that but we don't have sugar maples here. I have read that box elder trees can be tapped and maybe I will to try it this year. Can you tell me more about the correct temperature??

I didn't get to it :/

Ideally temps should be below freezing at night and hover around 40 during the day. You can tap hickories too :D It makes tasty sweet sap. :drool

Church was very good tonight :) There are SO many prayer requests though, a 17 yr old dying of brain cancer, our elderly folks, Rhodas family, my aunt with severe dementia, a 12 year old having heart surgery, my 80 yr old buddy in the hospital having heart surgery, and the list goes on and on and on... Sometimes it makes me wonder if people are staying prayed up like they should. Of course there will always be needs, but it seems overwhelming lately, especially amongst the young folks having health issues. You kind of expect it with the elder crowd, but these babies really, with heart conditions and brain tumors, debilitating or potentially debilitating illnesses, and they have their whole lives ahead of them God willing. It just really is sad.

One day....there will be no more of this mess!! One day....and I look forward to it!!

You can use box elder. It will just have a different taste. What most people don't realize is that box elder is in the maple family.

For the sap to run, you need night temps below freezing and day temp above freezing. The warmth causes the sap to swell up into the trees capillaries, and the freezing temp pushes it back down at night.

Once the trees "bud" the chemical composition changes and the sappers stop collecting

Had to go straighten the DD out on a thing or ten. That kid has took soooo many backward steps with her social skills and maturity since going back to public school :barnie We didn't argue, and I see her point, and told her so, but wow...teenagers are so screwed up in the head!! We were able to come to an agreement though so alls well that ends well.
