The eldest wants to get 6 Golden Wyandot layers. Can't decide if it's going to be 50, 75, or 100 meaties.

A buddy of mine got a Dexter cow and her bull calf. I want to see how he does with that first.
Im only doing 25 or so meaties :hides
But I have a family of five, plus a plethora of extended family because of the kids, and the wife's been enticing her friends with the possibility of my fresh, home raised chickens - oh yeah, hubby will just buy a few extra and if you pay for some feed and a little for processing, we can get you a dozen or so.... :/
Im a member of a family of five (me, Mom, Auntie, Granny, and Sister). I already told mom there aint no way in that old bad place were selling meat or exchanging it. Its too risky. I dont even wanna sell eggs. Are you gonna process em?

I drive about 80 miles one way to have a guy process them that is a USDA-approved facility (I get stickers I could put on the packages). I could get them done a little closer, for less money, but I feel like I would be an old rum-rummer or moonshiner, with all the secretive contacts to find someone to do it.

I could do 1 or 2 at a time no sweat, but I don't have the investment in all the equipment right now - and I would get little help from the kids. I usually just have the processor leave the birds whole, then we break the birds down into how we want them stored. 40 birds take us about 8 hours or so, once I get home.

My eldest daughter wouldn't eat chicken for a year after our first batch of meaties. The son is okay with it. The night before I took our first batch to the processor, I asked the kids if they wanted to visit the chickens one last time (I was leaving at 5:30 in morning) - the youngest said, "Bye-bye chickens, have fun getting your heads chopped off, I can't wait to eat you..." She is my farm girl... :hugs

We saw "Up" at the drive-in (DS was not with us). When the Russell character started whining, we all started hooting and hollering and laughing our rears off when the youngest blurted out "he's just like my brother"

I wasn't sure about the movie at first, I was surprised at the message, same as Despicable Me.

I want to see that one too. Oh, and to answer your other question, DH can't eat anything he kills/cleans. His dad is the same way :hu I think it may be an excuse ;)
