Well i have cleaned up the bator. I wound up with 12 chickies. 14/16 hatched, making it a 87.5% hatch rate, but two died. :( One had naval rupture, the other I dunno what happened to it. :hu Must have had something internal wrong with it. The other 12 are cheeping their crazy heads off right now

Goat milking went SO SMOOTH today! :th I can't believe how much better today was and I got the most milk I have ever gotten in one milking session!!! :woot It was slightly more than a cup. Dakota has apparently been drinking a LOAD of milk. I seperated them last night...eventually momma tore my coop up to let baby get some milk  so I still didn't get as much as I should have :somad but I did see a big difference. That doeling is 12 weeks old. When will momma wean that vacuum!?!?!?!?! She has got to be still drinking like a half gallon a day, because I sure aint getting it! *sigh* She WILL be weaned as soon as I get the goat quarters finished. I WANT MILK!

So that is my day thus far :) hope everyone else is good!

Congrats on the hatchlings!!!!

Your momma will let that doeling nurse as long as she wants to - my herd queen let her wether nurse for 7 months a few years ago. When she kid last year the girls were weaned by 5 month (but still tried taking a swig here and there). Another of my does weaned her kids by 10 weeks and this year she's already pushing her week old kids to the side only letting them have a sip here and there.

You can try a number of different methods to help weaning - I taped up my does teats during the day so the kids couldn't nurse but could still be all together. Then I'd milk her in the evening.

I may try the taping hers up. A local buddy gave me the best tip ever this morning. When she starts kicking in the stanchion, reach up and twist her ear  I almost had to twist her stinkin head off this morning, but eventually she understood what I meant. She is dang MEAN I tell ya! Anywhere but the stanchion she's as sweet natured as you could want a doe to be, but once up there it's like she becomes demon posessed! SO GLAD for that tip! I was about ready to give up and just have barbecue :p

Tape is definately in her future ;) :thumbsup
