I KNOW, but I was tired so I did not argue! We went fishing for about an hour or so, then ran errands, then fought our way home through a storm that the rain was pouring so hard I was going like 20 mph and still could hardly see! Plus we went grcery shopping today, and it took me about an hour to clean those fish and get supper going...long day.
Yea today at the beach I started itching in the water and it made it a long day. Yesterday my sister found a conch shell and I thought of you.
Aw that's sweet of ya buddy :hugs
A number of years ago, the Army Corps of Engineers was dredging somewhere up the coast and dumping the dredge to build out the beach (the high tide was splashing over the high water wall lining the parking lot). We came home with a paper grocery bag full of starfish and sand dollars. Lots of broken conch shells, but nothing worthy of keeping.

The way the cycle of the tides were at that time, low tide was like between 6-7am. Coming out first thing in the morning with a steaming cup of coffee to walk the fresh morning beach, what did I see? about 30-40 robust grandma's all in a line, bent over, facing the ocean, scooping up everything in sight. It was quite the spectacle.

(no offense intended to anyone who might have been there). :D

Yum! I love catfish. As long as it gets boned sufficiently.
These were so big I filleted all of them, no bones ;) I love getting the big ones, they're so easy. Skinning them is what is awful torture  I never can get good hols on that skin!! I tried to skin the smallest one, but uh...it wasn't happening. I prefer bluegill when I clean little fishes. They're easy as pie.

OH!! DD 14 actually WATCHED and offered to help!!!! :th Little Miss Squeamish...I bout fainted!
My dh taught me how to take the skins off after fileting.
You place the filets skin down on the cutting board. Start at the tail, and keeping the knife angled down, press into the skin as you slide it down the length. hold the tail portion tightly with the other hand.

I still mangle it a bit, but am getting better at it. He is a pro though!

Yep that's how I do it too. It's hard to keep a grip on a slick fish though! Especially with having to explain every single step to a curious 7 year old whose face is inches away from the whole process

FJ that's the way it was on Tybee beach when we went!! All the locals who own houses on the beach were the big time combers and you had to get up pretty darn early to beat them to the good shells!!

LIFE IS GOOD!!!!!!!!! :weee :weee

Well...it just is, no reason, just good.

Hubs has been home today. The kids have played nicely for a change. I have gotten a lot of butter made and tomatoes put up, and gardening done, and just stuff, random cleaning and preserving etc. We got more rain, and it has been just a plain old boring slow day, but it feels good. I made the kids chocolate milk, and the young niece has about drove us nuts with her song and dance routine. I even handed her the jar to make butter and she hopped around on one foot singing "I like to move it move it, I like to shake it shake it" at the top of her lungs until the butter was almost finished. Yes, she's insane but we kinda like her. We had an ice fight in the kitchen, and have just been relatively stupid all day. We have tossed the loud child around by her feet, and even somehow finished laundry in the mix somewhere. :hu I honestly can't say how we've gotten anything done, but we have.

hehee...sounds like a singing in the rain kind of day. Raining here too, but I didn't get anything done, and didn't have any fun either. I should have went to your house:) Could have at least helped with the butter...LOL

I wish we'd have a rainy day here! Maybe I'd actually get some stuff done in the house. :/
