Serious question - other using them for dry goods, you ever can with a 1/2 gallon canning jar? I'm seeing a lot for sale lately and wondering if I'm missing something.
I suppose you could, but you'd have to have a rather large canner. I use mine for storage only.
They will fit in the canner, well, about 3 of them at once. I was thinking about chicken stock next week after processing, since we normally use two quart jars at a time when cooking.

If they'll fit, why not. I am sure folks used to can in them. If you had to can for a family of nine or so, you'd definately have use for half gallon jars. I just don't except for storage at this time. :hu

I wonder if you could can a whole chicken in those? Hmmmm, wonder how long you would need to process them?

They're still sold around here, but they're only recommended for liquidy things like tomato sauce because of the processing times required. I wouldn't can a chicken in one, it would take forever to process!

Yeah come to think I wouldn't can chicken in them either, maybe tomatoes or pickles or something with high acidity, but not meat.

Hauled two loads of steel today again. Trying to build up to the point of putting some money back in savings. It. is. exhausting. BUT, worth it! I have to get a shower and get my tail to church now. It's gonna be a loooooooong afternoon I'm afraid. They need to move the church about 30 miles closer  I always seem to dread that drive :( especially when I am tired. I'll see you all tomorrow though. I may get on for about 30 seconds tonight :p Only doing ONE load tomorrow.

I got a few errands done today too, and picked up pumpkins from the farmer's market. I got FOUR this time :woot The chickens love them! The goat got IN the rabbit cage today, and i had to catch two rabbits, and fix the cage, and scold a goat. :/ I got everything finished though, and took the neighbors a pumpkin so they can return the guts and peelings and have the majority of the meat of it. The ones i get have bad spots, but some of it is still good for human consumption. I may put a bit in the freezer myself before the pumpkins run out.

Gotta go ya'll! Hope everyone had a great day! :hugs

:/ My butt is numb. I hate it when that happens. My left leg is numb all the way down the back to the back of my knee and I can't fully straighten it out, so I won't be doing much today. *sigh* I guess I could use a break anyway, but I hate being FORCED into it due to injury. I am soooo sore though, neck, shoulders, arms, and back, could definately use a day off. I'm getting old :p

In other news, there is no other news because this is it. I will be BORED all day.

Guess I can do some bible study and reading, and financial planning, maybe crochet a ? something, or I could just go to sleep until it is healed :gig
