I made doughnuts tonight :drool They were delicious fresh! I got the recipe out of the Hobby Farm Home magazine November issue. I had to fenangle a glaze because I ONLY like glazed doughnuts :p It turned out pretty good, DH and DD ate two each, then nieces and nephew came in and got one each, and SIL ate one, and I had one. Everybody approved :D I have a new recipe! :weee :weee

3/4 stick of unsalted butter
1/2 c. sugar
2 large eggs room temperature
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 tsp salt
4 c. all purpose flour
4 tsp instant yeast
1 c milk lukewarm
oil or fat for deep frying
filling optional

Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs. Beat in vanilla and salt.
Add 2 c. flour and yeast, beat until just mixed.
Beat in 1/2 c milk.
beat in additional 1/2 c. flour, and the remaining 1/2 c. milk.
Mix in 1/2 c flour. Dough should be moist and sticky. If it is add remaining 1/2 c. flour, if not do not add more flour.

Scrape dough ball into greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Let rise till doubled, or about 1 hour.

Roll out 1/4 in. thick on a lightly floured surface, and cut into desired shapes, let rest 20 minutes. Then deep fry on each side for 1 minute, flipping only once. Roll in sugar or pipe in filling as desired.

There ya go Cheerrio :) Enjoy them, they are delicious. They are a bit difficult to mix as the dough gets REALLY thick at times but they are soooooooooo worth the effort!

Thanks!! I'm all over it! I think, If I can wait that long, these will be great on Christmas morning. I can make the dough the night before, yes?

Yes you can make the dough the night before and refrigerate it in a sealed container after you punch it down. It will actually keep for a week that way, so if you wanted to go ahead and make it and store it now, you could.

ETA: You are just one of two in the household, correct? This batch makes 18 doughnuts and 18 doughnut holes. You could make 3 batches of 6 or 2 batches of 9 and have some now, and some later. No need for WAITING!! ;)

Thanks WBF! I think I'm going to fry up the whole batch Christmas morning and take some over to our 2 closest neighbors. They have been very helpful this past year and they will really appreciate it. Especially the "Old Man" (as he is affectionately known) next door, he loves doughnuts! :D

Have a great day hauling steel! :)

YVW Cheerio :)

Well I haven't gotten to haul steel or have a great day so far  DD has a fat lip...no I didn't smack her :p Her food allergy kicked her tail. I told her lay off all the junk....but apparently her ears were temporarily out of service and she didn't hear the warning. Now she has a bottom lip the size of a corndog. Had to take her in for a shot. I guess it's a good thing we didn't go to Pinky's today :/ She's in bed sleepin it off, and i am running around the house trying to get done with the cleanup efforts after "Hurricane Niecey" hung out for two days here. I kinda have to stay pretty close by to check on DD ever so often to make sure she's still BREATHING :barnie It scares me when her face swells like this. I should be used to it by now, but I aint. BOO food allergies :smack
