I'm somewhat envious of the organization you guys have. On paper/physically, I'm a very disorganized person, but everything is fairly well organized mentally, lol. My instructors at school (the decent ones) had commented on how I'm one of the worst people for organization, but have one of the best memories they've ever seen. I make up for my lack of organization with my memory, lol. I could give oral reports on any client (including clients that weren't my own) but gosh damned if I could get that written out onto paper.

My DS#1 was exactly like that! They ran IQ tests on him, and he was at genius level - if every test was done orally. As soon as he had to get it from his head to paper; not so good! :p

That's where I'm at. I had to have the IQ tests as well, because I never did homework or anything. They thought I was way below average, only to find out that I was WAAAAY above average. Unfortunately, public schools cannot handle kids like that... They hold them back, instead of letting them progress! I was actually supposed to be put into algebra in 8th grade, but the school held me back based solely on homework. My test scores were above everyone else, but since my overall grade was low because of how much they take from homework, they wouldn't let me progress. The school was SUPPOSED to be working with me on an IEP, where they weren't to be counting homework, but whatever. They finally switched me part time to another school. It was a VERY independant school, where they handed you a year's worth of work at once and you did it on your own at your own pace. I finished up two or three years of math and English in about a week (see, now my memory is failing me, lol). I probably could have done it faster, but they would only give me one year's worth of work at a time, instead of just handing me everything at once. It was fun though, because they did have "teachers" there for when you needed help, you could ask them anything. Ironically, the students soon learned that I knew more and was a better help than the "teachers" there, and instead of asking the teachers, they all started coming straight to me. Even in nursing school, the girls always came to me instead of the other students or the math instructor. The one instructor was talking to me the one day when a few girls came up to get help with their math during clinical hours... She's like "usually, math takes a LOT of organization, which you obviously are very lacking in, yet you're simply amazing with math, and you even do it in your head!" That right there was the key though, I can do it in my head very easily, but I can't put it on paper! The one instructor had actually given me a "free pass" with showing my work in math. I told her that it was very hard for me to show my work, because half of the time I forget to write down "steps" because it's just automatic for me... I don't process through different steps, I just "know" the answer. The one day, she "caught" me after school teaching the other girls, and she's like, well, obviously you know what you're doing, so just write down the steps on any problems that you actually have to think about and then we'll be good. Once in awhile I'd have a step or two written down on the homework, but for the most part, I just wrote the answer, and she was fine with it, lol. Of course, she's seen me do my math homework, so she knew I wasn't cheating or anything. I've even found a few mistakes in the math book. ;)

Anyways, long story short, public schools cannot handle "special" kids. They have special things in place for students who have lower IQ's, but they have NOTHING in place for kids with extremely high IQ's. Some of the things they do for lower IQ children work for higher IQ's, but it's not perfect by any means, and mostly, they just hold the kids back and then wonder why they sleep through the classes out of straight boredom.

Too true! I never understood at first, why DS#1 would ace a test when we practiced at home, then got a D at school! He kept saying "My brain freezes! I know what it is, but I just can't write it down!" We always did test practice orally, so the light bulb went off - asked the school to give him his tests orally, or allow me to show up and give him the tests orally, supervised by someone in the office. No go :/ When we moved to TX, they tested him, and immediately placed him in the talented & gifted program. Well, long story short, 3 months later, because he couldn't show the teacher his work, they decided he should be in the delayed learning class  Wish I'd known about home schooling back then - bet that kid would've soared! His little brother is home schooled, and I realized pretty quickly that, with the flexibility to 'do school' in any way that works for the student, it was exactly what his brother had needed.
ETA: Sorry about hijacking your thread WBF! :hide

My brain never "freezes", but I do have major issues with stuff like fill in the blanks and essays. I just don't know exactly what they want... Many of them, if you really think about it, can have fifty answers, and I could write a damn novel when it comes to a short essay. Those ones really irritate me, because I KNOW the answer, but when they ask it, I have a hard time knowing EXACTLY what little blurb of info they want from me!

And, yeah, sorry WBF for totally hijacking your thread!!!

I likey hijacky!!!!!! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee off to the left.....weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee........back to the right........ You guys are fine yackety yacking in my thread ;) I like it, and so totally agree with the both of you. I'm the number cruncher mathmatics lover in my family. I failed Algebra for the same reasons you stated betta. I HATED algebra because of all of the stupid formulas and writing out all the steps when I could SEE the answer in my head without all that crapola.

Anywho....moolie, that's kind of what i've done, but I had to collect more input from the neighbors household since it's for the lot of us, rather than just our household. They eat some things we don't and vice versa, so I had to get a clearer picture by talking to them. The pickled beets they put in there...will NOT get touched by this household. DD can't have beets at all, because of the high levels of natural msg in them, and DH and I just don't care for them :hu I could do our house easily. I think I've pretty well got it now though. :D

In other news....found the turkey nest today five eggs :D I have 5 babies in the bator too...little fluffy Ameracauna/EE's...which are technically just EE's now :p The neighbors AC got fixed, it was the fan motor switch thingy had malfunctioned and kept the fan from blowing, thus shutting down the unit to keep from burning up the motor. $80 and it's cooling down :woot The kids took an hour and a half nap after lunch. Then when they got up I took them home. They fell asleep right about the time the guy got the unit fixed, so that gave the house time to cool off a bit before taking them home. I made 3 commercial size loaves of bread, and 3 extra large pizzas and a large stromboli today. Was supposed to make apple butter, but didn't want to can with the little ones under foot. I can do that tomorrow though. :)

I hope everyone else had a good day :D

We do alot of times ;) We cook out a good bit. It balances out, we go there, they come here. They buy us meats, we buy them meats. We're raising the hog together. Half for us, half for them. None of us ever want for anything, and the "run to the store for something I forgot" doesn't happen anymore. I just call the neighbors  it's rare that the one doesn't have what the other needs.
