My last post reminded me of my cousin so I had to call her....about midway through the conversation I remembered why I don't call her very often....TWO HOURS later :th ..I'm finally off the phone and my ear hurts but we had some good conversation!

I forgot how poor we were growing up!! We had no clue we were poor then, thought everybody lived that way  I had forgotten when I was 10 I got my first job....digging worms  My nails were dirty for months on end caked with worm castings, but I had some cash ;) I remember thinking if I could just keep working every day for the whole summer I could buy me some nice school clothes and FINALLY make those mean girls jealous :gig What was I thinking? Those girls are STILL mean....but that was my plan. Me and my brother snuck off to the store on our bicycles and bought candy anyway :D Then momma needed some of it for something :hu I did get some new shoes though...momma MADE ME buy shoes with MY money :th LOL! Imagine THAT.......I love my mean momma, she aint so mean ;)

Now I AM the MEAN momma...I made DD buy her own shirt today :p

Your last post brought a smile to my face! My first job was sticking bull thistles in pastures. Got blisters quickly followed by calluses! Next job was rogueing grain... Walking through the fields pulling weeds so that they could get certified.

We were poor but we had fun and were happy!

Guys, I just got a call from the mother of a young friend of mine who was pregnant. She was 16. She lost her baby. She was a few months along and had heard the baby's heartbeat and had settled on a name, was supposed to find out gender at next Dr. visit. Now she is struggling emotionally, knowing on the one hand this may have been for the best, but on the other hand, knowing that a life is gone. Please be in prayer for her. Her name is Jackie. Pray for her mom, and their family, they are taking this pretty hard, as is to be expected. She goes tomorrow for a DNC :hit God's will be done...maybe this young lady will turn her life around and give it to God. I hurt for her very much, she is a good kid, who simply made some bad choices, and is now suffering something I can not even imagine, the loss of a child...
Any updates on how everyone is holding up? :fl

Wow, I remember stories of my mom and her siblings telling how they would pull wild mustard plants and stuff out of the pastures to make spending money for the homecoming fair.

I started "working for money" in the 6th grade, worked in the yard and garden without pay before that. Haven't stopped :)

Having a hard time with kids these days getting motivated. Maybe out where you all live it hasn't changed much, but for me it has changed big-time. Used to be a teenager could get a part-time job at the local grocery store - now they're all union shops and the jobs are filled with people my age trying to make ends meet.

Only thing a teen can do around here is babysit, or run their own business...which is what I am trying to get DD to do. She's always complaining about not having any money  Lately I tell her join the stinkin club and quit whining. She wants new clothes and new shoes and a new iPod and... :smack I NEED a newER car sooooooo she best be finding a way to make some cash. Most of her problem is she isn't willing to work for it :p I should make her plant melons to sell this Spring, maybe when the cash starts flowing in a bit she'll "get it" and get motivated. Key word being MAYBE :idunno
