Ticks,

I picked up a book at the library's book sale last spring...I thought of you, but then you were gone for a while and then I forgot about it.

It is called Colter by Rick Bass. It is an easy read about a pheasant hunter and his hunting dog named Colter. True story and the guy lives ss in a cabin with no electricity.

I probably have that book.

Does the dog die?
Well, he doesn't come home one night and that's that. There is no agonizing ending like those other dog books.

The author doesn't get too specific about living ss, as I wished he had, but he does mention it.

Another great hunter/dog book is called Mearl's Door. The author is a hunter (of everything) and also a writer for the Audabon Society. He is into preservation and living as ss as possible etc. I highly recommend it to everyone who is interested in dogs. It is also a true story and has photos to boot. The author is a genius.
