Christmas presents!!!

We were talking this morning about how one of the things we will be giving up with the economy going the way it is would be holidays.

We have already cut out Halloween and Easter the last couple years. The most I do for either of those is bake the kids cupcakes to decorate.

We don't do anything for the other holidays either, except Thanksgiving and Christmas. Wasn't because we don't want to have the holidays, just we weren't into all the materialistic stuff and it was more personal to "celebrate" privately at home.

So we have decided that we will just start dividing out my beanies to the kids for xmas and birthdays. I mean I have a 100+ beanies, and 5 kids, should be easy to give them out for a couple years or so.

I was relieved that we came up with this solution, because I know Xmas is a big deal to kids. I wouldn't be bothered by not having it, especially if the money isn't there. I limit my kids to 3 xmas gifts a year from us anyway, but they get way more than that with grandparents, etc.

Oh, m'gosh. I am SO over this "X-mas" crap. I have grown to dread it SO SO much. I feel like such a scrooge. I don't want to decorate. Don't want to put up a Christmas tree. Don't want to bake cookies for Santa.

If I didn't have a five year old, I would skip it altogether. But at the moment, it is SO MUCH FUN for him that it is worth it. We never have spent a bunch of money on it, so that's not what I have a problem with. I'm just sick of it, I guess.

Good idea about the beanies! (wondering if I can sell my kids on my fabric squares and balls of yarn...)

you could surely sell them....I believe there is a big collector market for those.

I am soooooo over collecting..LOL...I collected Franklin Mint, Armani horse sculptures and they were expensive. I look at all of those and see 10K and wish I had the money back!!!! The things I spent money on as a young'in--shoot me! LOL

I thought of selling but figured since I will never buy another one, I got them around my house as my accents....

good idea for gifts if you don't want to part with them.

I love Christmas---IF and ONLY IF I keep it in a simple easy manner. I stay away from the commercialism side of it and enjoy it with the family in a low key manner. I love decorating the tree and house---HATE taking it all down..HA HA

That's a great idea. My daughter has a bunch too but I don't hink she's ready to part with them, even though hse doens't play wih them. Although, as she is getting older, she is a little more willing to pass things on, or sell at a yardsale.
Will the kids know they were yours?? And is so, would they mind receiving "not new" gifts?

when I was younger since I didn't have a lot of money I just went to the dollar store and bought stuff. It was mostly crappy stuff so I stopped doing that. Now I just draw pictures for people, I should get started on that now so I have a lot of time to work on them. Last year I did pictures and then a month later I had to do 10-15 pictures for an art scholarship, I didn't draw much after that, all that drawing kind of killed my hand for a while.

Great idea with the beanies, your kids will probably love them.

My Grandmother used to gift us her saved treasures. You should have seen my mom's face when she gave me a set of Wedgewood dessert plates for my B-day. She was green with envy. I guess she had been hoping to get those since she was a teenager.

Maybe I'll give them to her for Christmas this year. I think I've used them once in the past ten years.

I haven't been able to give them away! People around me are beanied out, and at the flea markets they are only going for $1-$2 dollars.

I figured the boys would love them as toys. I know my daughter would. She'll like putting them up for decorations in her room

I am honestly Christmased out. Too many "Christmas in July" sales and I get tired of seeing the decorations up before Thanksgiving, sometimes even before Halloween here....and they don't take them down until after Valentine's day..................UGH!!

They don't even know I have as many as I do. I have one sitting on my desk, and the ones they have seen they have begged me for.

No, they won't mind getting "not new" gifts. They have learned to appreciate whatever they receive since $ has not always been a leisure here.

well I searched "sell beanie babies" on google and the future doesn't look great...LOL...they say they are not holding even their purchase prices except for a few rare ones. I guess the beanie time has passed?????

Presents are the best route to go then!

There isn't a kid who wouldn't love a few beanie babies in their stocking or something! I know I would...LOL
