Who does that in Alaska for cry'n out loud, its Alaska,, :oops:

closer to the coast it may not be as cold as the inland areas - it may also be really damp so you want a space that breathes... still, yeah, i'd want plenty of insulation and thermal mass just to even out the temperature more.

our forecast is going back up in temperatures too for several days at least. yay! i hate having to burn propane for heat.

straw bale construction, at least half underground, with a Naturhaus (house inside of a greenhouse) on the exposed side.

If I have enough lifespan and money left when DH passes, I plan to build one.
that sounds really nice but how does the straw last? thinking through all this.

We are above 0 folks--we have sun! Heading out to unfreeze chicken water for hopefully the last time for a week or so.

Those are great.... but have never become mainstream.

There are a number of creative houses up here.... but most houses are normal stick construction.

It would be something else.... an entire city full of houses built alternitively.
