Just to see if hubby likes it. I have had lamb before, but hubby has not.

Since we have 6 lambs who's futures are as of yet undecided, we thought we would try lamb to see if hubbs and the kids like it.
If it is not a winner on our dinner table, then they all get sold. If they do like it, how many do you think we should keep for our freezer?

We enjoy lamb. We usually only have only have leg of lamb one a year, at Easter, because it is so expensive here. Lamb chops make it home from the market on occasion also. Eventually, we hope to raise our own, but right now we have too many other irons in the fire. I love my freezer, and it would be a tough fight for me to give it up.

We had leg of lamb for the first time on Easter, it was gave to us. I fixed it in the crockpot and it was delicious! My family,..all of them ate it and raved how good it was. I would love to fix it more often, but it is a little expensive.

When we had our shetland lamb processed we ended up with 49lbs of meat, including soup/dog bones. I cooked up 6 chops, and each one of them had about 1 bite of meat, and lots of fat and bones. So overall, it wasn't that much meat.

If your lambs are a meat breed, you'll probably get more meat. Spacially, the total ended up being about 2 full paper grocery bags full.

Hope that helps.

Yes, that does help, thank you! while I have 4 freezers, (oops I now have 5), only two are in use right now as the season is winding down and we are eating what we froze, but they are all full come end of summer. I have enough room to put two or three lambs in the freezer pending ifhubs and kiddos like it or not.

On a sad note, the leg o lamb will have to wait unti tomorrow, as somethng came up and only two of us will be home for supper tonight. :(

oh no! sorry you have to wait... man that sounds really really good.. i know you'll enjoy it.

i love to make it on the grill after its been marinated in yogurt and lemon juice just like Ina Garten makes it...yummm

totally agree - the smaller sheep are great bite sizes. one time we dressed lambs and turkeys on the same day with a pal.. and when we hung them the extra large turks were almost bigger than the small sheep!

:)
