Anyone notice -- if you were out shopping -- Ball has a little set of fermenting jars. Airable lids and a pusher to keep all under brine. Also lids & pusher with no jars.

Cute. Good if you only do a couple jars. Otherwise, get a big crock!

you have never eaten ranch style beans? they should be on every shelf in America. black label it says ranch style beans with a smiling face

they were invented right here in my hometown

no, never had them before.

we can't usually buy or eat many premade canned foods. aside from the hot chili intolerance of Mom the smoked aspect wouldn't likely be to Mom's tastes at all and then there are the risks of BBQ sauces of many kinds having pepper added to them which does a rotten job on her. there are some other additives which get her badly too so most often it just isn't worth the risk of buying premade foods unless we 100% know what is in them is safe for her.

7 quarts of dill pickles. I have a batch of relish setting now. I will can it tomorrow evening. I am anticipating a bummer crop of tomatoes and beans too. So, I am just getting started plus more pickles...
