Pork butt. Yep, got one marked to $.87 per pd. Couldn't pass and don't need, some in freezer. Sooo, canning this one. In and at temp now 😁 also bought fresh pork picnic, marked at $1.37 pd. Thinking that'll get in freezer. Have bones/scraps of this to cook, plus fat to render. All I want to do today.

Cool & all day rains. Good day for this.

🙄 Actually, beef has gotten so high that that was a decent price! Chuck is running 6.99-7.99 around here. It'll be real cheap sounding in a couple more months :old

I got 2 butt portion hams @ .88 -- Easter sales -- gonna can up in pints, make a pot of beans with the small bone. Cheap meals, good protein. 👍heat & eat.

8 pts of ham chunks cooling. Put 2nd ham in frig. Will decide what I want to do in a couple days. 3rd put into freezer. Soooo, while canner doing it's job, I look for a bag of beans to go with ham bone. None! Wanted white and only pinto or red kidney -- I've canned the rest. 🥴 Wrapped up that bone and put in freezer. One day when I'm out, I'll get a couple bags of great northerns.

Cats got some juices & scraps in their kibble tonight ☺️

Just a reminder, a wallet check 😁

We all look for supply buys & jars at flea markets, etc. many to most of those come with no ring/lid. When looking at price, consider a box of lids average 30 cent ea piece & ring/lid combo 50 ea set. A case of new, with all lidded is $1.15-$1.30 ea, for 12.

So we mostly buy quantity of lids, runs 3-5 cent less per..... Still 25 cent per lid! Yeah, tatler out there and most of us don't have for the repeat use.

Just saying -- $1 per used naked jar, might as well buy new or add another 30-50 cent for lids. Then new is less:oops:

We know this but, in a rush, we don't think. :idunno bargain shop at your next thrift or garage shop. You really need 50 cent per jar....or less.

Goodwill in my area raised the price of their jars to $.99. Absolutely insane. Now I get them at estate sales, on the LAST day, for 50 cents or less. I also have no qualms buying old boxes of lids. There is more red rubber on those older lids than nowadays.

I made a pan of charro beans yesterday...just a 2 bowl pot. Excellent. Used up 2 patties of hot sausage -- bought by mistake -- and some home grown, canned or frozen veg. Was almost bland until I added the oregano! Then, delish. 😁

Yep, you made me do it!
