It wasn't a recipe for pork rinds, but rather a recipe for making your own lard, which also creates cracklings.

I'll post it in the recipe section.

Thanks! So cracklings are "pork rinds"? Hua, I learn something everyday! (That is what I get for being raised by vegetarians! I don't know much about pork products.)

One beer down...:D

(Hey ofg, do you know how to make pork rinds? Seriously, I love those things! I know the ones you get at the store aren't good for you though, right?)

I'm ready for my refreshing beverage, my snuggly blanket and my couch!
cant says i do know how to make pork rinds.... hum. the cracklins from when i made lard are a little weird for me and frankly the hens need and love them more than i do.

but see - now you're thinking.... oh all the lovely ways to use pork products....

I'm not sure if cracklings and pork rinds are the same thing. I haven't made either of them. Although I do like the "pork rinds" I occasionally get in the potato chip section of my supermarket.

I remember in Laura Ingall's books, they slaughtered a pig and the kids loved it when mom let them eat some of the cracklings, then mom used the cracklings to make some kind of bread I think.

I think just getting all that good lard is worth it, even if the cracklings are only good for the chickens

One beer down...big_smile
Just caught that ;)
Maybe I'll join you, though I make it wine, beer makes me go to the bathroom and then fall asleep. It's too early to go to sleep, haven't even had dinner yet, and haven't played any of my facebook games yet either

And I still need to spend some more time watching the chicklets. They had a big day outside and are tuckered out. They doubled in size today, at least that's what it looks like, or their pen shrunk... :idunno

Cheers to the weekend!

I have two ginormous chicks sitting on my counter basking in their warm lit digs. They grew overnight too! Funny how they do that.

Gosh, I wish they had a mama to escort them outside. :/

I am learning what spring cleaning is. Winter is dirty. :/

In TX I wondered why they call it spring cleaning...nows I know!!

Day 1 of the weekend down, got the threshold painted, looks good! Also finally did some paint touch up in the family room and hall.

The tadpoles turned out to be mosquito larvae. :/ Some people just don't know what they are growing in their rainwater.

Now to watch the Olympics!

Yes Bee, I was paying attention, and although I'd be grumpy about it, at this moment in my life I'd much rather be getting firewood that sitting in a hotel! I still say I'm coming to your place to live! haha

Today I did a tiny bit of Geocaching, but this darn wannabe-migraine has kept me down today. DH was kind enough to buy me more aspirin and CHOCOLATE! :D So I've been reading about seed drying and storage.
If you ever make it Southern Illinois I have two caches.

I think cracklins are what is left in the pan after you render fat. The hard crunchy stuff.

Pork rinds...takes me back to childhood. The Rudolph Foods plant was in the town we lived near (Westminster, OH), and yes there is a pork rind festival every summer, but for some reason it's held in Harrod :hu. The smell was quite sickening some days, but the products are tasty. It's a love/hate relationship I have with them. I love them, but if I eat them I remember the smell and :sick
