That mustard recipe sounds yummy. Hubby loves mustard so I think I will make him a batch.

I made another batch of salsa...this time I AM HIDING THE BOWL!!!

It's a little heavy on the hot peppers (ran out of gypsy peppers), but I think it will be fine. Everything is in a cabinet out of the way. The door on that cabinet sticks so nobody goes in there. Bwaa haa haa!!!!

I just checked my library book hold list and I am #12 out of 22 people waiting for the Sally Fallon book :p

The mustard seems like a fun thing, I hope to get to the yellow batch tonight. With my new, empty fridge calling to me, I have a huge fermenting list of things I want to make and things I want to try!

BBH, I ended up putting something on the pickles to weight them down. I used a smaller container filled with water, then had a hard time getting it out of the jar! So I will use a ziploc filled with water next time, unless I find a nice rock that is just the right size that I can scrub and boil and reserve just for that purpose.

Henrietta, yay on the oatmeal and yogurt! I made a batch of oatmeal (thick cut) a while ago with chopped dried fruit, cinnamon, and stevia that smelled and tasted just like really good cookies.....and VERY healthy. DH ate it for 3-4 days. It re-heats well with a little extra milk.

I'll be back later! :D

I think mustard may be my next project. I love the stuff!
The oatmeal I had was Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free, the really nubby stuff. Nice and chewy! I don't care for rolled oats much anymore. Used to be all I would eat!

I added yogurt to my bread yesterday. I had an outdated package of yeast that I ended up using, but my dough came out fantastic and consequently the bread.
I attribute it to having soaked the whole grains overnight and thus capturing some wild yeast.
After putting the dough in the bread pans, it rose so much in a short time, that I had to punch it down again in the pan.
Home made bread was the main course in our dinner last night.
The grains did end up a bit hard though, I think next time I will cook them and then let them sit overnight.

I also reserved some of the liquid from soaking the grains and added a tiny bit of bread dough to it. Today I transferred it to a larger jar and added some flour. I plan on using it to make sour dough bread some time this week.

I bottled up my plumwine and got 4 bottles. I made mead yesterday, using honey and lemons. I bottled that today also. I have never had mead, and am looking forward to trying it out.
It sure feels great having those bottles sitting on the counter. I need to label them and put the wine somewhere to age. The mead isn't supposed to be refrigerated for for two more days.

WZ, where will you get the fish sauce? I have no idea where to begin looking, and I am frankly grossed out by the idea of making my own. I left it out of my ketchup recipe, and ended up with something that smells like weak spaghetti sauce. Ew. It is in the fermenting fridge to wait for the addition of fish sauce. I think I will wait for your results first, though.

I will make another batch of mustard today. DH just had a hotdog with some of the spicy batch, he was raving about it. I just had to buy another box of 4 oz jars, I tend to give them away with face cream, deodorant, and such. They never seem to come back!

I had a full day of 4 clients, and they ALL rescheduled!!!! Something in the air? Moonspots? A re-schedule is rare in my practice.

So it is raining here, yay, a domestic day for me!!!

I think my kombucha is toast.

I had to move it last week and the liq. splooshed up on the paper towel top...I think I lost whatever good stuff was beginning to grow there. I am on like day 10 or 11 and it is still really sweet.

Guess I need ot buy another bottle to try again.

The white spots on the top of the tea were the colonies beginning to form. Did you lose ALL the white spots? Is it in a dark place? It may just take a little longer after the oops. But I would think you'd see SOME progress by now.....

There is some funk on top but I know that I lost it all last week to the paper towel :he

Should I give it more time? Could I just add more of the store bought kombucha to the mix instead of a complete do-over?
