For me, the cane borers start about the time the plants are fully leaved. Look for 2 sets of brown thin scabs girdling the cane, about 1/2" apart and 4 - 6" from the tip. (caused by a small beetle) As for the crown borers, look for a swelling towards the base of the plant. (caused by a moth that resembles a brightly colored yellow jacket) Cane borers early in season, crown borers in sept here.

Thank you!!! Those were very helpful and I'll know what to look for now. The ducks will not be able to reach the cane borers and their larvae, but they may be able to access the crown borer moths and eggs. I hope they do!

I haven't seen anything like that yet, but I've only had mature raspberries here one year, so will be on the look out.

Do you have an inhaler diffuser chamber? It helps a lot. I can't deal with just straight into the mouth very well. Only the rescue inhaler is used without when I'm not home.
Yes, I use a chamber. I got a bigger purse so I could haul that thing with me when I go somewhere. As time goes on, I'm having to use it more often, which sucks, but breathing is a good thing.
I'm just one of those people that have reactions to a lot of stuff. I hate it. I try to eat as healthy as I can while I make all kinds of goodies for the guys...and then I just stare at it. I have changes in taste as well. Sweet potatoes taste like they have medicine in them, etc, etc. o_Oo_Oo_O

Used Sawzall to trim down 2 legs on first raised bed frame. Reset that frame. Built and set second frame. Tomorrow's goal: level surrounding area, loosen and amend soil in beds, move rhubarb crowns, plant asparagus crowns. More rain scheduled for tues. Joy. Not.

I also need to get netting up on CP to keep the chickens from the garden. I no longer need, nor can tolerate their assistance.

Red Tails and Northern Goshawks are circling and keeping the flock on high alert. I think someone caught a rabbit earlier today. Horrific screeching for a minute or two.

Mother Nature decided to slap us last night unexpectedly. Hit 23°. We'll see if it killed off the fruit tree blossoms. My lemon verbena may have survived. I pinched off the wilted parts.

It's been in the 20s for a low last several days, but that has been rising.

Planted my zucchini seeds. Potted up or repotted about 20 pots of herbs. Granted I collect mint cultivars so many are mints.

I have now moved 2 of the silkie pens. Very rich soil there and I have seeds ready to be planted. New garden there will be 20x60 when all is said and done.
