I cut broccoli for dinner - and it was GOOOOOOOD!

I want to start seeds...maybe this week I can get things in order for that!

I have containers, seeds, starting medium, time, a place AND no weather that will support them when starts are ready! So, I wait. It's hard to wait when you're ready.

Limits -- I have to address what & how much I plant. I mean, how much do I need and use? So many choices!! How did I get here? LOL

Picked and ate some juicy rhubarb, scuffed up some weed seedlings out of the wood chips, fashioned a new garden gate out of an old section of picket fence.

It frosted heavy here last night and supposed to do it all again tonight, but nothing looks the worse for wear out there. The lettuce and other greens seem to love this cold weather, of course.
Just the regular watering of the plants routine. just noticed that it seems like there's more flies that before. can I do something about this? Is there something wrong about my daily routine?

I added more straw bedding and some eating hay in the feed bin for the buck who is currently calling this area "home". Ya know, extra fertilizer and hay waste being spread for me. :D

This was an old 44' round pen which was reassigned as a garden area. Hey, not in use except for animal holding area anymore. I added chicken wire to the 4 board fence, a little hoop hut and bingo. Mr B is doing a fine job in there. Will add more amenities in a couple months when I move him to other quarters for Spring/Summer chores. Then till it, plant & mulch.

It's close to barn, has electric pole at edge, water spigots within 20 feet. Ideal really. Only a few hundred feet from house.

Had a thought to share.

As I look through the seed porn mail, I keep a list of those things that jump at me as I excitedly think I "WANT" that. Within a day or two I look at my seed stash and cross off those which I have (shamefully, often a few pacs of). Gnerally by a weekend, 98% are crossed off :hide

I liken it to a "word find" puzzle. Saves $$.

I'm glad I'm not the only one with the seed fantasies:

I need that. I want that.

I don't have room for that.

I can make room for that.

Who am I trying to kid?

In my fantasies: My garden is perfectly manicured. There are no bugs. There are no diseases, either mystery or well known.

The plants maintain a diminutive form, each one only taking as much room as their description on the seed packet states. All plants are thinned or planted according to precise measurements to match their size as stated on the seed packets. No plant wanders into territory that belongs to an other plant. Walking paths are magically kept clear of weeds and sprawling plants throughout the growing season. (because my fantasy plants are too well behaved to sprawl)

And, I have time to lovingly tend every plant, every row, every bed. Destroy every weed.

And... I have time and ENERGY to harvest and process every vegetable and herb at it's peak of flavor and maturity. And, all of my canning jars are sparkling clean, and ready. The kitchen counters look like the Better Homes and Garden's displays. All the necessary pots, pans, bowls, colanders, and other equipment are ready, but not in the way, because I have miles of pristine counters. And there are never any conflicts between family activities and processing needs or energy levels.

Who am I trying to kid?
