I will need to look. Simplicity works better for me, fewer parts to lose. 😀

I must have run truckloads of tomatoes, apples, and peaches through this thing ( or one like it) in 30+ years. Still going strong

But of course, this picture is all wrong. Lololol

1. The intake should never be that full. You need to be able to push the material into the screw. I envision fruit falling everywhere
2. The end product bowls are full and THERE IS NO MESS! The piece under the mesh should be covered in pulp and drippy
3. The outflow of the screw should have a big pile of squeezed remains (for the chickens)

Jealous. This time the tomatoes are one by one or 2 by 2 a day. Cannot can like that. Next time hope will be better.
Not much going on besides the rain and stormy weather. I am ok with that. On a later break, will go and check on water for the quackies, they drink a lot.
Ahh... Don't be jealous, plant a long row or two next year, then you can have as much fun as we did 👍. Seriously, I didn't consider it work at all, it was fun. Plus, I learned a lot, so I can do more better next time. I wanted to run the bucket of skins and seeds, pulp and juice back through the juicer a second time. Then I looked and there were bad spots from tomato trimming before they went through the machine in the buckets. So I just fed it to the animals. Cattle licked their feeding through clean and the turkeys and ducks cleaned up their big bowl. So nothing went to waste really. I just would have liked to see more in jars. I'll know better next time.

We have one just like that, bought it from rural king, It works well. But cranking the handle gets old pretty fast. I could rig up a variable speed motor but then I'm back to an electric powered machine again.

I run the pulp though a couple times to get out everything I can.

Used it on some concord grapes once amd canned the juice. That was the freshest tasting juice when opened but there was a lot of pulp. Made grape jam just fine. Normally I use a steam juicer for grapes. It's easier and you get juice that is suitable for wine making. Great aunt got one back in the 70s. Also the juice is so bloody hot that when you put it in sterilized jars it's suitable for open kettle canning.

My wife wants to do the next round differently. Core the tomatoes, throw in a blender skins and all blend untill smooth. She said we are missing out on a bunch of good flavor and nutrition from the skins and seeds. She's probably right, I try and not question her much when she wants to try something new.

it is very hard to core one of these:

that's a picture from years ago, but a fair number of the tomatoes we've picked this season have looked somewhat like that. a lot of things in there that you don't want ground up in a blender (or even in your tomato chunks). i've heard of the puree in a blender approach before, but we've never done that here.

instead what we've done in the past for juicing is to core the tomatoes but leave as much of the skins on as possible and then stewed the entire result until most of it was softened up and then we run that through the food mill and that does extract a lot of color and stuff that otherwise is lost during skinning when we do chunks, but i'm ok with that. just a different approach. :)

the juice is very good. sometimes it is so sweet i feel like i'm drinking candy, but with even more umami flavor than any candy i've ever had (hmm, perhaps there's another billion in considering that?)... :)

As for working outside, it didn't bother me one little bit, it was warm and sunny but I would rather be outside working than inside working. Plus clean up was a breeze. Inside work is for the winter time but even then I tend to put off a lot of outside work like fence building until the winter because it's easier with weeds, blood sucking insects, the ground is soft and I don't sweat as much.

prime big project time for me is in the early to middle fall (if we have any fall at all). for those reasons plus because it's when i finally can get out there and do it when the gardens are mostly put up or in the process of being put up. cooler weather means i can work harder for longer.

Hey, lovely people! I am not sure about today. Seems the same as yesterday without a nap,lol
Rained most of the day. Finished the last part of the hardwarecloth and had to gather up. Cut the huge buttercrunch lettuce stalls and put them inside the chicken run and quackies. They can eat whatever they want. Will pick up the leftovers in the morning. It turned pretty dark so I turned the lights on in the run. Just went out for last check, turned lights off and kicked mama and babies out of the nest. Another day tomorrow to get up by 530 to uncover the nests, yuck!
No wheels since this morning. Dropped the beat-up chevy at mechanic to check brakes because it goes to the floor like when the brakes line is being bleeded. Need to travel Wednesday, so making sure all is good.
Picked 3 tomatoes today, lol and also the big Broccoli. Cooked a bit for hub and said it was good. I was just gagging with the smell, lol. And that is pretty much it. Trying to record stuff to put it on YouTube. Not for money but like a journal.
Thank you CrealCritter, I hope to do better next time. However, just reading all the work you all do, I am getting scared 😱 🤣
I have had this pulling in my heart lately and good thing tomorrow will be with my best friend. Need to see if God is pulling me or what.
