we worked together today to get a few gardens weeded and then when i was getting towards the end of my energy i told Mom i wanted to chop the daylilies back that have been taking over a garden for many years.

they've probably been in there at least 10 years and went from a single line of plants to a garden about 2 meters by 4-5 meters. i had my scraper with me and figured it would not take that long to do it, so i whacked at a few and it was really easy and Mom was cutting them by hand and she saw how easy it was and so she went and got her scraper and we both took it all down in about a half hour total. still need to get a few weeds along the fence but it's at least chopped back. piled all the choppings on top of the plants to help smother them.

i will probably have to chop it back a bunch of more times before the plants give up and perhaps i can plant some beans in there so at least the space can get used for that in some spots. i hate leaving any garden space bare dirt for long as that just invites more weeds to sprout. this patch has needed weeding the past several years to get the large clovers out of it (they keep getting powdery mildew) and i've wanted it cleared so at least we're getting that started in a more serious manner. the cardboard smother trick last fall did not work (it has to be done right to work).

so we're making progress and getting things ready to plant. :)

tomorrow i have to get the oil changed on the mower and mow.

I brought the tomatoes, peppers and corn into the penthouse. It will go down to 50's tonight. Then worked on the Husqvarna taking the plow out. Gave up on the last chain. Too freaking tight. Will work on it tomorrow again so I can put the mower back on.
Couldn't find the yarn I used but got something close enough. Just have to make some changes so the difference is not that obvious.
Stopped by few places checking small tractors and those prices are insane. 22k for a 4wd with loader on one side and backhoe on the other. Sure looks nice but my pockets are not that nice, lol planning on more outside work tomorrow.

The backhoe alone is $6-8k. Can't believe you'd have enough need/use on your yard for that expense. You have couple acres? I'd think a tiller, or pull behind for riding mower would be enough for garden. :idunno

I love my tractor and have what you say, plus. But also 15 acres to tend. So for me it makes sense. You may want to shop smaller options. 🙂

@flowerbug just testing here. Back in PR, you can go to a public river, not in a private property, and take any or all the rocks you want. Why are they sold here? Are there any areas that one can gather a few buckets of rocks?

here is the link i found:

you can pick up some rocks at a beach, but generally it's probably not a great idea to take buckets of them.

it's Mom's favorite beach thing though to go sit and look at the rocks and find the ones she could use for her stepping stones. now she's not made any of those for several years (and we got half our garage back :) ).

i have some collections of rocks here that have been done over many years a few at a time but for the bigger areas we had them brought in a dump truck or cement mixer at a time (the crushed rinsed limestone mulch came in via cement mixer because then they could shute it into piles at the end of the driveway and i'd move it all by wheelbarrow from there to where it was finally going - except finally is a bit of a joke with us because we often seem to be ending up moving things again). a lot of the larger rocks came in via the trunk of the car that Mom would go scout rocks from large piles at a place down the road. she'd pay them $5 per load (which was pretty expensive when you consider what she was able to get one time with a dump truck, but that was unloaded into the ditch out front and then we had to move them from there to out back a few at a time in the wheelbarrow - yes, all of this was a lot of work that i no longer really care to do if i can avoid it now).

still when we are out driving around and see a rockpile we always want to go check it out and see if we can haul it away for them - but now we just know to smile at each other and laugh and not stop...

Got up this morning and before going to a friend's house, decide to clean the coop quickly. Saw blue poop and my heart almost stopped. Began chasing the girls to check each one of them. Then I realized I had given them blueberries yesterday, lol

So, my friend has a green house and I got red bell peppers and Amish paste tomatoes that never tried and a lavender plant. So, reported the peppers and tomatoes and planted the lavender in front of the green-pen,lol

Her plants are beautiful. So, I dedicated myself all day in sorting each Roma and Easy paste tomatoes in bigger pots. It was not easy holding them with 2 fingers and trying to scoop dirt around and not on them. They seem ok

As well as the Oregano.

Now, there is grass on the left of the Egyptian onions. Can I plant tomatoes there?

Continued separating seedlings of some cherry and heirloom tomatoes. For some odd reason my omeprazole did not work today. With heartburn most of the day eventhough I took 40mg again and topped it of with rolaids, lol
Got some soil to soon start the beans hoping the cold goes away some. Came inside earlier than planned due to the heartburn 😫
