It's the oxalic acid content that is the toxin. I have watched a rooster repeatedly eat rhubarb leaves without any signs of ill effect. My horse tried it a couple of times and quit because of the taste. He also never showed any ill effects.I thought they were poisonous to animals.....

Check your information, the stems are not toxic. The high oxalic acid content in the leaves is the toxin.My chickens ate the leaves on mine. Stems are toxic to chickens.
