I thought they were poisonous to animals.....
It's the oxalic acid content that is the toxin. I have watched a rooster repeatedly eat rhubarb leaves without any signs of ill effect. My horse tried it a couple of times and quit because of the taste. He also never showed any ill effects.

I planted two hills of Early Sugar Pie pumpkins. Planted a few Rattlesnake beans on a short piece of fencing in the area that was previously known as the pig pen. Put a couple feed sacks down between some rows and hid them under some hay. Pulled up the sugar snaps, pulled all the peas off and fed the vines to the goats. They were happy - until they ran out.
