Ive also been getting seed order ready. Got to get stuff before it's out of stock.
On the otherside of that coin, I've encouraged the rewilding of the part of the property for over a decade. Previous owner cut down trees and bulldozed it flat. There was serious flooding issues our first winter here when the streams and pond were at their fullest. I encouraged the alder, willow, and cottonwood. What was covered with a foot and a half of water then, gets two inches max during snowmelt now and drains off pretty quick. I also get all sorts of native plants I can pick for different uses.

In defense of our over bought, over saved seed stashes, remember that weather disasters that have destroyed so much have also ruined many seed farms. Expect already high prices to climb, some limited supplies, and treasure our home seed banks.

Finally planted carrots. Also turnips, radishes and lettuce. Still need to plant onions, garlic and more taters. Slowly but surely...

I'm trying to encourage everything to wild itself. If seeds will survive over the winter and come up on their own, I don't need to worry about seed shortages.

Our ground is now like a sponge, but I though I would experiment and put out some carrot, kale and romaine and maybe cabbage.
the arugula reseeds its self very nicely.
All I planted last spring was tomatoes and peppers, and I am glad that was all. I really didnt have time to take care of it.
but, I will test out winter gardening with my oldest seed so there really wont be a loss.

After work, I will be temporarily planting peonies root in the garden beds to overwinter until I can get the flower beds built

My single squash is embarrassed. She's starting to blush. I may get seeds after all.
This weird period of higher temps after the first frost has tomatoes and watermelons regrowing from the root and blooming again.
A seedling almond survived the summer with 0 water May to August, and a second is putting out new leaves after dying with the heat. Now to see if they can survive the winter. All 5 2nd year peaches and all 5 2nd year apricots are still alive.
I harvested my first salad from my hydroponics and moved the mustard to the back since I don't like the flavor. I'll just get seeds from that.
Put up another section of glazing on my cattle panel greenhouse.
