It seems like from a lot of postings lately, many of us are starting to feel the effects of the poor economy right now. While we all need to be able to commiserate with each other and comfort each other, I thought perhaps a thread dedicated to actual things we did on a given day, in order to save money
Cooked and ate at home. That saves at lest twenty or thirty dollars.

Shopped discounts. I got Kraft Delux Mac/Cheese dinners for thirty cents each on clearance. Reg price was $2.79. I bought all they had on the shelf to save for later.

Washed Comforters myself instead of dry cleaning them. We shall see if the feathers plump back up OK.

Borrowed extra poultry crates for the livestock auction rather than buying any more. I only have a couple of my own, but I needed more. Instead of buying, I just borrowed a few for today.

I also bought a mixed "lot" of chickens at sale, but immediately resold all of the ones I didn't want. That saved me feeding them until the next auction. They were Delawares, and I only wanted the hens. I resold 11 roos without even having to transport them home.

Baked my own bread.

I staied home instead of going to the store as I had planned. I did some research on line to make a middle eastern based dinner. I had soaked up some fava beens and have lots of cucumbers that I want to use.

Last night we were fixing fencing until after dark, then finished chores, and really, really wanted to order a pizza. Didn't. I'd made some bruscetta and we had it with....nachos! It was fantastic! Better than pizza, and still gave us the taste of pizza and cheese. Cost us a dollar or two, so we saved about $13.

Used OSB from the roof of my Mom's old coop to be the floor of my new coop addition. :D Saved about $11 that way. :D

I'm dryng onions to make dried minced and powdered onions later to mix my own seasonings... The price of seasonings these days is crazy. The onions were cheap and we go through alot.

Just discovered my rose geranium leaves lose their fragrance...I went to add my newly dried ones to the jar of leaves I dried in July, and they had NO scent, kept in a tightly closed glass jar.

I went to DD's house to check on their cats while they were away and picked up today's paper and brought it home. Figure it'll be old news by the time they get home tomorrow. ;)
We rarely buy the paper. We usually just get one after someone else has read it and is finished with it. Sometimes it's a day late, but that's ok.
I'm making a big batch of tomato sauce. Been peeling and chopping tomatoes all day.
A friend came up to visit and get away from the city for the day and brought dinner fixins and is making the dinner. Don't worry, he'll expect to take a whole bunch of goodies home from our garden. So it's more like barter  But then we have plenty to spare and he is making chinese food: wontons, lots of them.
