I learned that chocolate pound cake takes an hour and 36 minutes to bake instead of an hour and 20 like the recipe says. :D

I learned that there are still good trusting people on this earth.

My dd and I went oto look at some horse tack, after responding to an ad on kijiji. The girl had two saddles, one high in the withers, which we though would be good on my QH, and an english ap saddle.

I had corresponded with her only on email where she wouldn't know my name, as it comes up as miss_thenorth. She does not know my address or my ph #. She let me walk off her farm with two saddles--approx $1000 worth, not knowing me at all.

Stupid? maybe, but I will not let her down. If the saddles fit, she will get her money.

eta, if they don't fit, I will bring them back.

ps I love this thread, abi. :)

I learned that I've been learning. I made my first homemade applesauce (yum!), and when I put it in the pantry I suddenly realized how much of my own canned stuff was in there -- soup stock, tomatoes, jams and jellies, etc.

And I have you all to thank for so much of it! I've tried so many things based on what I've read here. Thank you!

I learned that my dog is brilliantly good at figuring out what the heck I mean, and when he guesses wrong the problem is generally that *I* need to figure out what the heck I mean :)

I learned that if you are very, very lazy you can cook meatballs from raw in a crockpot and have them come out reasonably good.

I learned yet more very surprising things about my husband, and still think he is nuts, but at least today for practically the first time ever he is actually making an effort to change things, so I *hope* I am learning that patient faith is eventually rewarded. (If not, I suppose I will turn out to have been learning that sometimes misgivings are correct).

And, I learned that a 45 lb lab puppy *almost* fits in your lap on a small folding chair while you're sitting outdoors watching the kids play in the snow. Almost. Not quite. But almost.

I learned that I really enjoy having a little billy goat. It now feels like we have a miniature goat herd.

I also learned that it is really easy to move our electric netting fence, so the goats have fresh greens to browse.

I learned that the neighbors have a great sense of humor.

Thanks Ms North :D Me too! What fun this is!

I learned today that if you don't use any casual conversation and just keep your manners pretty, people think you are socially adept.

I also learned that I've come a very VERY long way in handling commotion and not having melt downs at a noisy busy place. I lubs my diet. I blame my diet for most of my new found coping ability. I handled 150 people without having a single meltdown. I spent a lot of time hugging my Imooto for support, but I made it the whole way through!
Great job! What's an Imooto?

I learned about cubing - apparently in california, instead of "sledding", they go buy a big cube of ice and use it to slide down the hill.
