Mmmmmm.... I love broccoli!

Today, I pack PB& pear jelly sandwiches for the kids along with a container of raw salad (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, onions, artichokes and olive) with Greek dressing and an apple.

I will be having another enormous salad with chicken breast, sliced purple onions and Greek dressing as I did yesterday with blackberry applesauce and tea.

I usually pick elderberries to dump into the sauce before straining. It gives it a beautiful color. This year, I didn't pick in time, so I dumped in blackberries (frozen) just before running the apples through my saucer. Probably about 3 handfuls of blackberries per 6 quarts of sauce. You could adjust however you want to until you get the color you want.

I love that idea. I am keeping my eyes open for some good apple deals....and I have blackberries in my freezer :)
What is the best type or combination of apples to use in sauce?

You know, I think that is entirely up to you. What flavors and textures do you like? My husband insists on late fall red Cortlands. I like a blend of apples, tart and sweet. My kids couldn't care less, as long as there is no cinnamon in it. All of us prefer it frozen to canned. Do you have friends or family who sauce? You could try theirs and find out what tastes best, then ask for varieties.

Or, just try a bunch of varieties at a local orchard. It's a safe bet that if you like eating them, you will like the sauce. For example, being as I cannot stand Red Delicious, I'm pretty sure I would not enjoy the sauce, either.

ok, just like cooking with wine, choose a variety that yu like to eat? Got it.
None of my friends or family have any interest in anything other even remotely SS, no gardening, no chickens , no canning, no fermenting, no line drying laundry, no whole foods....yep, I am the odd man out.
