And since this thread has taken a detour - SKR8PN, I live 10 minutes from Der Dutchman in Plain City :D I go for the meatloaf manhattan when I need comfort food. And the doughnuts. Oh the doughnuts. :drool

But seriously, Lehman's is awesome. I could spend hours there.

Do they have stuff that is not on the site? I would love to go!! I bet I could talk hubby into it, too, if we could find someone to squeeze da goats.

So, seriously, I have a dutch oven, two griddles, a small frying pan that I cook eggs in, a medium frying pan with a lid that I rarely use, and a 12" frying pan with a lid that I use a lot. I can put a small or a cut up chicken in that one and use it like a dutch oven. I wonder if it is worth having the fryer, too, since it is the same size, just a little deeper.

There is quite a bit of stuff not listed on the site. You can get a neck strain just from looking at all the antiques used as decor. The place is quite a sight and you won't find better customer service anywhere else. While we were there, one of the employees came to help us pick out a crock. She took our crock selection AND all the other stuff we had picked out, up to the checkout area where they have a "hold shelf". When we got ready to leave, all we had to do was pick our stuff off the shelf, take two steps and we were in a checkout.

I have managed to purchase many used and new skillets. So I have several, but I have never seen anything near a chicken fryer. I would go with the 12 inch. It looks like a multi purpose pan. Stove top, oven etc..

You guys are so lucky to have a Lehman's store. I would never leave. I sit and drool over the catalogue as it is. Jeesh, it's just not far.

You know, y'all aren't much help! I still equally want the wok, the fryer, and two waffle irons!!! Can you imagine what the shipping would be on all that iron?

To help me decide, I just posted a wanted ad in the antiques section of my local craigslist. We will see what that yields and go from there. I bet I get a lot of replies with overpriced junk! Let the e-mails begin!

Have a Lehman question -

I found a 10 inch deep "dutch oven" at a resale place. It only had made in USA and 10 (meaning 10 ") but no other markings. Was trying to figure out the manufacturer. Yes I bought it, was barely used. Sorry for the hijack free!

Personally - I would chose the nubian and I am not even a goat owner :(.

I love cast iron. We have three different dutch ovens, a chicken fryer, assorted frying pans (skillets), muffin pans, and griddles. However, my far and above favorite cast Iron, is the one for making cornbread in the shape of little ears of corn. :D

Oh - the chicken fryer or dutchoven. I had one with a lid and I used it for so many things. But DH ruined it. Yes, you can ruin cast iron. He put it in a campfire and burned it and it's just awful. I tried every cleaning trick there is. He is not allowed to use any of my pans, he has ruined so many. :rant
Ruh-roh - you have me nervous, Javamama...are you not supposed to use cast iron in a campfire?? I was all set to buy a cast iron dutch oven for emergency/outdoor cooking!!! :/

I do dutch oven cooking all the time while camping. I have a little cook book that talks about how many coals on top vs on the bottom and what temperature it is equivalent to. I use a round fire pit on legs to set mine in, I also use a tri pod to hang the pot up off the coals. I am not quite good enough to used straight wood coal. It's hard to count them. :p

You can make anything from one pot meals to breakfast and deserts. :D

I think the pan javamamma's dh ruined must have been in the fire or something.

Holy Carp look what I just found on my CL!!!
