What to fill plastic egg with to fool hens into broodiness?

I had to go to town today, and stopped at a church rummage sale I passed. I saw a basket of ceramic eggs for less than a dollar and thought I had it solved but when I picked it up they had all been glazed together. Oh well.

At least golf balls DO work for my silkies and I can get them for a dime or so at the thrift store.

I made what I will call "redneck eggs" even though I'm not really a redneck. I took some small rocks and used duct tape to tape two together. Then I took a longer piece of duct tape, maybe 8-10", and loosely wrapped the rocks with the sticky side of the tape facing out. Then I put it in an egg and snapped the egg shut. I'm thinking the tape will keep them from getting broken too easily and the rocks are a perfect weight. The tape also keeps them from rattling around.

I was thinking of getting some storebought eggs but I'd already paid 90 cents for the plastic ones! Couldn't waste them!

I went to put the duck eggs under my broody ("Peaches") and take out her one unfertile egg...turns out she was broodie on nothing! Oh she was so happy to get some eggs!! She tucked every one of them under her and clucked with joy. You gotta love Buff O's!

My hens have broody fever right now. Wanda was broody for months, so I finally gave her 3 adopted BR chicks I got from a friend. Now I have a hen that just went broody for hte first time. I collect the eggs every day and she's still there the next day. I'm going to give her another few days and then try to see how she does on them. Sometimes they get stupid when they're first time hatchers and abandon the nest. One of my bantams also went broody today, so I may give her a couple too. I don't mind htem being broody, but they hog up the nest boxes and the other hens have been laying outside in the compost pile.
