.....ok they dropped the pice on the property behind us....maybe now they might consider our offer...
we live just outside a very small town..
but I am a real barginist never like to spend unless it makes good financial scence....
this is 2 1/2 acres of uncleared land....(but only thiner trees...so may be duable...thought...now what could I make to sell or use with all those branches)

what venture would you go into if you wanted your investment back?????

it is so lovely and private here...but many of the trees that actually set the amniance at our house..are not actually inside our property.line..
it would be a worry...that if we didn't take the situation into our own hands..they could all be cleared...would absolutedly break my heart...

our situation is my hubby is getting up there, but earns a good living....we were going to pay the house off in one more year...catch up with tax the third...
and work for retirement...
i sort of like the idea...of having some income coming in ..if something ever was to happen..but is it worth risking security..
.we considered opening up and antique art shop in town....but are now putting that in the bucket of ideas...that didn't happen but didn't cost us any money..
and I really didn't want to be spening so much time away from the place I love...

so what do you think should we go for it....
my hubby likes the idea of we could resell down the line...and not include the trees we love...
but I couldn't sleep last night...thinking is it worth risking ????

There are plenty of critters you could raise in wooded areas. You could sell the offspring (or eggs if birds), meat or other product you raise. Guineas, chickens, goats, etc. If it's a reasonable price, I'd say go for it if you can afford it.

From my personal experience, if the trees on that property are a big part of what makes your property special for you.........you should buy it (as long as the price is not ridiculous of course). We live in the suburbs, but were lucky enough that we had an undeveloped 9 acre lot behind us. It was nice to have the trees behind our small yard instead of neighbors. It was for sale for a very long time and we wanted to buy part of it, but they would not subdivide. Not that it would have mattered since they wanted $1 million for the whole thing. Now, someone else has bought it and cleared the tress. We can now see clear through to the next subdivision, which is not a very nice place. They cops are out there all the time. The trees used to shield us from the noise. We don't like our back yard anymore and feel like we have no privacy back there. If those trees are important to you, you should get it while you can. You never know what might be put in there place.

What would *I* do? Buy it up, put up some goat fencing, and let the goats go to town. Turn brush into goat milk or meat or both.

Then again, I want dairy goats anyway ... must get out of the city soon! Once cleared, will any of land be good for garden or orchard?

If part of that property is what makes your backyard special, I would buy it. Our neighbour bought the lot between our two properties (we couldn't see his house before) and totally cleared it... now there's just a giant lawn between our two houses and it's awful. Hubby wants to plant about a million trees right along our property line so we don't have to look at his yard anymore (not that it's a bad yard, we just liked having a private yard to ourselves)

They wanted $10,000 for the lot and it's only an acre so we couldn't afford it... but I'm wishing we could have.

bettacreek...had thought that..too... or maybe a nursery.....

dfr1973 love the idea of goats...and there is definately lots to be eaten...
wonder how difficult it is too milk and make cheese...
nothing I can't learn
definately love the idea of naturally solving a problem...
and is lots of light so could be anything...

Dreaming of Chickens.. hwillm1977 you do understand....am so sorry to hear of your loss...
my granmother...in the house I grew up in had a double lot...in back...and lots of trees in front..
i drove by...is now a house in back...and no trees...left me hollow and so sad to see..it.

they originally were asking too too much...but seeing as the recent drop maybe they will budge
it is actually the city who owns it.....they put in a big new two lane bridge....and when they were nearing completion
put this up for sale....Used to curse that bridge.....is advertised as a subdividable lot...would be such a shame for that to happen...

be sure to check zoning on that land. do not assume it is exactly the same as yours. just be on the safest side before you buy cause 1 property line can change what is allowed on that land.

but if it is a go----buy it, buy it, buy it NOW. I would be finding out who I negotiate with and I would be in their face making a deal....as fast as I can.

You are land locked. You can only get what is around you. RARE that land comes up for sale right next to your home and when it does, and it is something you want for privacy or whatever, GET IT!!!!

My neighbor got a divorce. I was dumb enough to put my home on my corner line near her property. Put the field out the other way for horses. WHEN SHE said she was getting divorced I immediately said I want to buy the 3/4 land between her home and mine. It took a bit, I was in her face and she needed money for a lawyer so she took it.

THANK THE LORD I got that land cause the new neighbor would have done GOSH KNOWS WHAT right up to the corner of my home. That 3/4 acre barrier is an absolute god-send.
I smile everytime I see that land and know it keeps a great distance between my neighbor and myself...whew...best buy of my life. And yea I paid a little more than I should have cause I had to have it, but worth every single penny.

It will increase your home if you sell, and if you stay forever, you know you have that barrier and land to work on.

buy it, buy it :p

As a bit of "coincidence" between my first post and now, I bought a book at TSC called "200 Easy Homemade Cheese Recipes" by Debra Amrein-Boyes.

I say go for it!

We bought our 17 raw, wooded acres over a house with 5 acres and several outbuilding because I love trees!

Sure, it's been a lot of work to put in a clearing (of almost 2 acres for living, coops, gardens, orchard and a storage shed) but I wouldn't trade it for the world!

Your situation is even easier since this wooded property joins your existing property.

One of the things we're looking into for making some money from our woods is growing ginseng and goldenseal as our land is mainly hardwood (oaks and hickories). We probably wont see any money back on this project for atleast 7 years but I just look at is as $$$ there for the future.

Got my fingers crossed for ya that this works out! :fl
