Aw, that IS a bummer! I have always heard that turkeys can be hard to raise, but I didn't think they killed their own poults. But I bet you can make that store bought turkey taste good!

I found a good recipe for maple smoked turkey and we're going to do that.

I bought a poultry rub at the grocery store, but will follow the rest of the recipe. I'm going to spatchcock the bird to make it easier to brine (spread flat) and faster to cook. Going to make sweet potato fries, fried okra, cornbread dressing and cheese baked green beans. Pumpkin pies and probably ask son in law to make his yummy salad.

We are having a turkey that we raised last year, my mom is cooking Thanksgiving dinner on Wednesday. We'll have butternut squash they grew, mashed potatoes, stuffing and rolls. Not sure what else... Definitely pumpkin and apple pie. Ask FEM how much of this I'm supposed to eat, lol! (that would be.... Turkey and squash...)

On actual Thanksgiving we are staying home and might butcher a pig. That's how we roll.

You are right! But, turkey and squash are both delish!

Ya know - seems like I made a low carb pumpkin pie or was it pumpkin cheesecake (?) one year. Can't remember if I made an almond flour crust or just didn't use a crust at all. But, it was delish and low carb. DH was sooooo happy!

I need to hunt down that recipe.

Ok -I know this is the ultimate cop-out on a recipe...but what I usually do is just pick a cheesecake recipe and either substitute an almond flour crust - or use no crust at all. I'll use a sugar substitute for the sugar in the recipe and use real whipped cream instead of cool whip. Voila - low carb cheesecake!

Generally the only sugar substitute we use is Stevia....but I will use the "granulated" Splenda on the rare occasion that I bake something because it measures just like sugar.

Dinner tonight- venison steaks with blueberry sauce, brown rice and green beans from our garden. Delicious!!

I've been craving venison, and a friend just gave us a package of steaks and a package of stew meat. Yum!

Oh man....venison sounds so good right now. Hope my neighbor comes through with some for me. He did give me some jerky and it was sooo yummy!

Nobody said they were hungry tonight so I didn't fix anything. But, I'm sure about the time I'm ready to go to sleep that will change ...grrrr!
