With winter setting in I dread hauling water for my horses! Never fails even thow I drain the hose... it will eventually not get emptied all the way and freeze.

When I get cold I stay that way for HOURS!! During the winter I hate any chore outside.

For me...it is ANY chore in the house. I detest housework...luckily we have rainy days and I am forced to clean. LOL I would rather muck out stalls, haul wood...anything...PLEASE don't make me clean the house!!!! :p

Any chance you can get a heated waterer for the horses? I got one. It has 2 drink bowls and is heated. I had to battle ice etc. for my horses and then decided I could not take it anymore :p I must say it was the smartest way to spend my money. What a treat. And other than cleaning, I never had to worry about water, summer or winter. I believe it was $300 about 12 years ago. Not sure what they are now but even tho I had to run water line and elec. to it, truly it was worth the effort.

My water is located 300 ft away from the horse pasture, and belive me I have the water as close as possable. Would love to have a hydrent put in over there, but not an opption right now. So when the hose freezes we haul water 2 X a day for them.

Saw one of those richy waterers on cl for 400.00 a few months ago but that isn't posable either.

I look at them and remind them of all those days they didn't want to go where I wanted to go and water they didn't want to cross......

Was thinking about putting a small tank I have over there by the hydrent and filling it and just walking them (only have 4) over there to drink. Then dump what they don't drink so it won't freeze. But then there would be ice to walk on.

That's one of the things I like about where I board-there's an automatic waterer in the field. And, for just in case there's a power outage, I do have a 70 gallon stock tank I keep full. But of course during the winter, since there's no way to heat it, I'll have to break the ice in it to keep it from freezing solid. Not looking forward to that.

As for staying cold in the winter, I have the same problem. I've found if I drink some hot tea or hot chocolate, then curl up w/a heating pad, it goes a long way towards making me warmer.

oh man don't make yourself an ice rink!

my inlaws have a barn with 5 acres fenced down the road. the water source is across the street with a singlewide trailer they rent out.

a guy rented the pasture and he runs a hose across the street to the water trough. He had the winter hose troubles also. But he rented for like 4 years before they moved to the mts. and of course took the horses. Since them MIL put in a well over at that barn so at least now it is all one unit. FIL ran angus in it for a while.

so many options but your problem is freezing. hard to battle that freezing.

DISHES! I hate them, will hate them and will always hate them... I do not do them. EVER! My father in law told me that if I had the "boy" and gave him his only grandson with his name then I would never have to do dishes again... hubs agreed. I promptly produced the required grandson and I do not do dishes.. But funny story.. that "boy" is now a young adult and it is his job to keep the dishes done!
I would rather do cat litter. it is a quick couple a seconds if done a couple times a day and since it is hidden behind the trash bin and recycling bins it is quick.
I do not look forward to watering the chickens tho.. our hoses freeze so I have two one gallon jugs that git filled a couple times a day and out to the coop I go.. it is not hard, just cold!
