I'm pretty sure most everybody knows that actually. The button is just what everyone tends to call it. I know that, and I've never served in the military. :hu

Thanks fem, and yes, I do serve, just not in the military because I was busy(somewhat regrettably even) at the time I could have joined, SERVING by taking custody of my sister who was being abused. I got sick of it and fought my parents for custody and won. I serve in MANY ways, all the time. I don't need training and a gun to serve my country. Those who do, generally have my admiration, but there are plenty of folks who serve in other ways as well.

22 years Army National Guard, 3 years mobilized
Started out 11H, they dumped the 11 series into about 3 categories and I found myself 11B
Secondary of 31B
Retired as an E7
It's a game for the young
Got in late, stayed til I was almost 50
Lots of good memories. Every year the local high school puts on a vets day in May for local vets to come in and talk about their experiences
I didn't do it til a few years ago when my kids were still students there and my oldest asked me to do a presentation before she graduated
Still a few old WW2 vets coming in to do their talks despite their advanced years. A few Viet Nam and Korea vets, most are younger.

Welcome shipmate!
Good to see you here.
I don't come here much any more because of things like the comments above...by folks who never served. Sorry, I don't need that nonsense in my life.
This thread is about those who wore the uniform of our nation and sacrificed their safety for the cause of freedom. Those who don't like that, might as well post somewhere else.

OP - I'm not sure why there is so much anger directed to folks who disagree with you. This is a public forum and different opinions are good cause for a good discussion. Debate brings so many different ideas to the table, and perhaps some of us can learn from that.

I have a father to thank for his service, a brother also, and most recently my step-son. My uncle and (his son) my cousin served concurrently in Vietnam. I think they were fairly unique in that respect. Service runs deep in my family.

I know you started this thread with YOUR agenda in mind, but it IS a public forum and folks are going to respond in ways that you don't agree with.

It seems you missed the point. There is NO anger in what I said.

This really isn't a thread asking for opinion, is it? It is really quite simple. If you decide to "hijack" the thread and take it in another direction, perhaps you will find those who object?

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. That doesn't necessarily coincide with sharing facts. Opinion is debatable, isn't it? Facts are (hopefully true) and as such are generally NOT debatable. Abraham Lincoln was shot in the head by John Wilkes Boothe in Fords Theater. Those are facts. They are NOT debatable. What is the purpose of introducing "opinion" into a discussion of fact?

The thread asks for facts...not opinions. I am pleased to know you have family members who have served in uniform. That is something of which you can be proud...and now you finally reveal the fact that they did serve. Is the fact that they served debatable? Does it call for an opinion? So why introduce distraction for the sake of your own ego? I fail to see the purpose.

However, what you said about them is fact, not opinion. Do you find any difference?

I react to being "bullied" by fighting back, not just "laying down and taking it". Our nation is being destroyed because we are being "bullied" by the PC police, the extremist muslims and any number of racists and bigots who, when they don't like something resort to name calling, and ultimately violence. Your comment (Quoted above) is a style of BULLYING and I frankly, don't need to tolerate being bullied.

Despite all that, as I said, the thread asks who has served? It does not ask for opinions as to any other issue. There are lots of threads to debate those issues. Why not use them and allow this thread to no get "hijacked"?

You tackled me on another thread with the same logic. Is there some reason you keep at that? You use words like "anger" because you don't understand the issue. You react emotionally not logically.

Ball is in "YOUR COURT"...
