Hey, wolf-kim. Celiac runs in my family, too. Very interesting about the gray hair. I have never heard that one, but my mom and aunt with celiac sprue are actually more gray haired than my grandma! Lots of great flours and gluten-free, organic stuff out there. Will your husband get the blood test or biopsy for diagnosis?

Great things you guys have going on there!

When and if we have the spare money laying around, we'll get him tested. Until then, I'll just push towards it. Better to assume he has or is a carrier of Celiac's than to not and cause damage, right? It definately won't hurt to steer in that direction. It will help the rest of his family as well, because chances are more family members will realize they have it. Right now when the grandparent's cook, they'll pretty much cook two meals one gluten free and the other not.

:)

That's the "up" side of having this particular autoimmune disease running in the family. :p My grandpa has gotten to be quite the gluten-free gourmet, so every family gathering has LOTS of GF food to be enjoyed by all.

It DID get difficult, though, with my dad's reflux, 4 people GF, me avoiding dairy (but I don't request any special food), my nephew allergic to peanuts, citrus, corn, wheat and eggs, and my sister and her family eating vegetarian. We used to laugh that we should just pack brown rice and water for any family vacations together!

You learn something new everyday. DH got his first grey hair at 14, he's 34 and almost totally gray now. His grandmother & father both went gray early, too. I'm going to have to do some more research on celiac.

Yes, definately do some research. DH's grandfather went in to see the doctor and because his old doctor wasn't getting results, he switched to a new doctor. After hearing the symptoms, the doctor asked what nationality granpa was. When he answered Cherokee, Irish, and a few others, the doctor smiled and told him exactly what he thought it was. Irish and Cherokee are one of the higher nationalities that tend to have it.

The doctor also stated that it is believed that 1/3 of the population has Celiac's and doesn't know it. Kind of scary. The nature of Celiac's isn't one that makes itself apparent until later in life. It's one of those things that builds up. Definately look into it, and have yourself tested if you can. Better safe than sorry.

That is FUNNY! You're family sounds a bit like ours. 3 GF(and growing), 3 diabetics, and now our niece is dating a young man who is allergic to seafood(a major staple in our family), dogs, and the list hasn't been fully disclosed yet. LOL

Okay, that does it. I'm getting him tested. He's mainly Irish & Cherokee, with a dash of English & a pinch of French. So far, the symptoms appear to be what he's been dealing with. Reflux, IBS, chronic scalp & face rash. The reflux is mostly dealt with due to frequent yogurt & broth infusions, but the rest are still there.
I'm printing off some of the research now. Thank you!

Hey Kim! Just a word about going gluten free and testing......

If you('re dh) plan(s) on getting tested, DO NOT cut out gluten first AT ALL, b/c then the test won't be accurate. And if you go off gluten and then back on, it messes up your system, from what I've read. I was considering cutting out gluten too, but on my next dr's appt I will ask for the test (free here in Canada). My yearly is coming up soon, so until then I willl continue to eat gluten.

This one was born to a litter of 4, last Tuesday. In one of those pics he tried to make an escape when I uncupped my hands. *squeals* They are just so cute!
