I don't think I could control a pressure canner adequately over an open fire. When pressure goes up/down, that can cause siphoning in the jars. Perhaps on a wood stove, if it had adequate surface area. But... how many of us have such a stove in our homes?

They just confirmed a case in Massachusetts. That's a bit too close for comfort! I'm avoiding overly populated public areas because it's flu season anyway but this is another reason to continue that.

DH and I were talking about what we need to do/change for an emergency situation. We have propane heat, but we have a woodstove in his shop we could easily put in the house. We have a generator but we'd like to get a solar setup big enough to run the hydroponic garden and freezer.

Clearly a case of double speak, or cognitive dissonance!

yes! Very much this! ^^ My brother gave me some reusable Tattler lids. I haven't tried them yet. Most are regular mouth and all my jars are wide mouth. So... I am not sure. Do I want the ease of all one size more than I want reusable canning jar lids?

My pint jars are regular, quart jars are wide mouth. I have a few regular mouth quart jars, but that makes them hard to clean.
