What a miserable day. Freezing rain all day it's like a skating rink outside. Time to dig out the ice cleats.
Missy's date was canceled because of the weather so we will try again next month.
Still no sign of the beaver so he must have moved on. The trapper said he will leave the traps out...
Its another miserable day. Woke up to find everything is white. But it wont last long we have strong northerly winds and it just turned to rain. Supposed to be like this for a few days so I'm going to have to switch my mindset from outside work to inside. I still have to put up some giprock...
I'm hoping that he moved on to the next pond up because if he did he will leave that culvert alone as that pond has a river flowing out and whenever there are beavers there they dam the river and leave the culvert alone and damming the river wont affect the road.
I have a peice of chainlink fence across it now. I think the pvc pipe idea from the video will work. The culvert itself needs to be replaced. I am on the road committee and have suggested to the committee that when we replace it it should be longer so it reaches out past the road on both...
It's an unknown at the moment. I checked the culvert yesterday and it is still open so the beaver hasn't repaired it. The trapper has had no luck so far. I'm hoping the beaver got fed up with me and moved on.
So we finally got a dry day but the wind is enough to take you off your feet lol.
Going to take advantage of the day though. Hoping to finish a temporary pen for our other tom to get him out of the chicken coop I feel bad for him he's in a pen inside their coop I can't let him out because he...
Just got a new to me second hand manure prong. Will make mucking out the stalls and pens much easier. I regularly stop in to visit friends who have a farm nearby and while we were cleaning out some stalls I mentioned how I wish I had one to use at home as I have been using a pitchfork and the...
We had our oldest dog Dakota to the vet today and I'm sad to say we found out she has bone cancer. She's almost 15 now. She's not suffering yet and hopefully she doesn't get to that point. She's home now snuggled on the couch.
Tomorrow is supposed to be ok but the forecast for the rest of the week is miserable. I'm trying to get fencing done for the goats and get the pipes in place for our new well before the snow settles in for the winter. I dont mind working in drizzle but rain is another thing lol I find that...
The sheep all depends on who you ask. My wife will keep everything as pets lol
These 2 will be kept and bonnie will be breed next year. Any females will be kept and if I have my way any males will be raised for meat or sold.
The turkeys will be harvested the 2nd week of December. Some will...
The important thing with this setup is something to cover the opening in the cinderblocks to keep the bulb dry. 1 drop or water will blow a hot bulb. I'm using some leftover cement board but a peice of tin or just about anything else would work
So I just found out that I'm going to have a new neighbor. My brother just bought some land across the road from me and is hoping to start building next summer. He is planning on using it as a summer home. I wonder if I can get him into homesteading he calls my place the funny farm lol.
I have the plastic 3 gallon and 5 gallon waterers. I use 60w and 100w bulbs. The 100w is better for the colder nights. Last couple of years our average winter temp has been -10deg Celsius to -15deg Celsius. The windchill could be much colder. I just ordered a thermocube to use with them.
