What did you do in your garden today?

So I like cardboard for weed control due to biodegradable....I can get boxes from jobs, so free. Chemicals are not used BUT -- its a PITA to use. Last yr I planted and laid landscape fabric between rows, then mulched. Good results, not perfect. Looking into bigger, commercial...

    the little wild kingdom

I have my dad's old sharpening stone, oil & a couple pocket knives. 😊 Old! And his boatswain's pipe from Navy days. It's on a hand braided neck lanyard that he made. Back in the day he did a lot of macrame lace -- when the had fancy wood boats for the captains. A lost art now but very used...

I nuke in summer but bake in winter...heat in house ok then. They taste & texture better if baked, IMO. I have an old ricer 😁 and the wooden pusher, too. Prob 60 yr old & not used in last 40😁

The yr old garlic cloves are sprouting! 👍 Need to set up 3 containers to plant the cloves from 6 bulbs. Plus, those in the mail :hide Well, I should have plenty next year! 🤣 I love it anyway. Lower temps + a steady north breeze had me grabbing a jacket after just a few min outside. 😬Not...

    What's for dinner?

With LOTS of good butter :drool I also love sweets. Sweets -- prefer the larger ones to bake. But having some smaller ones here, I find they're good to slice about 1/2" thick and pan fry in butter works for quick meal. Often those small ones get lightly cooked in a pot, dumped for...

Coffee's Ready, Come and Sit on the Porch

Ya know -- now is a good time to consider how to live like many did 50 yrs ago! When you read the devastation from these natural disasters, it's pretty obvious we need to "know how". There are communities that have housing but are totally cut from electric, Internet -- roads totally gone...

Coffee's Ready, Come and Sit on the Porch

Heavy dew. Can't mow until dry -- grass very thick, so takes a while. 🤷 Not in mood for much outside this morning. Gave myself a needed hair cut while waiting for outside motivation. Hey, still a "cutting" chore 😂. Now lunch time! And have some cabbage & apples to process today. For now...

Coffee's Ready, Come and Sit on the Porch

The idea at build was light. But I have a row of window the entire length of each side of barn, 5.5' from ground. And fully wired with lights, sockets for more of whatever needed. So not an issue. Sun & weather has deteriorated the product surface. This barn also has a dug, concrete...

Coffee's Ready, Come and Sit on the Porch

Today is mow around barnyards, with grass catcher attached, to empty into a burn pile in middle of garden area. Stuff I'm cutting I don't want to lay around. Time to straighten some posts...crete them tight. Have couple fiberglass panels on barn roof to remove and up the new tin. They've...
