A friend from my church's mother lives in Sendai, and she has not been able to contact her. She knows from church members in Japan that her mother's house is still standing, but her mother is not there. We are still praying that Keiko's mother is safe somewhere.

Agreed. Everyone can do something, even if it's just buying one extra can of tuna or a bag of dried beans a week. Or refill your plastic milk, juice, or soda bottles with tap water and store that. No extra money spent, and now you have some emergency water.
We have bulk grains stored 3 different ways- in 5 gallon plastic buckets-sealed by manufacturer, #10 tin cans, and mylar bags- both with oxygen absorbers. I have some gamma lids for buckets of grains I use often like rolled oats and wheat.
