I use my chipped/damaged canning jars for seed saving. The seeds don't care, and I can see what's inside. I also save some lids, marking them "USED", so I don't accidentally can with those lids.
GREAT thread. I just bought a kit with bits to remove stripped screws. My house is ~ 100yo, so we have too many of them. Great reference articles, too. =D
I don't extreme coupon, but I do chase sales. The time to find the best prices is the last FULL week of the month. Most people blow their budget the FIRST full week, so the stores wait until later to offer the best deals, when fewer customers have the money for it. It helps their bottom...
Hey--haven't been here much lately, but I've been back for a few weeks.
Since I left, I expanded my gardens and double-dug 4 of my nine raised beds, to the depth of 30 inches below ground. If you don't know this enables every plant to shoot the roots really deep, and you can scoop the dirt out...
This is NOT an emergency, but the weather begs this question and I believe this is the best forum in which to find a solution, at least for NEXT winter. I'd like to heat my horse's water in the winter. I have heard of two horse deaths from the current products--death from electrocution, for...
Sounds like you have quite a bit. Perhaps you could sell some next year. I don't worry about composting down my chicken manure bc I only clean regularly in the winter. In the summer, I only strip several times. Same with what I clean from my horses. I just pile it up and let it sit until...
Make rolls, stuff them with fabric scraps and use them to block drafts in your windows. You will want to measure your windows ahead of time so they fit.
We used pallets to support in my horse manger (in the shelter) rebuild project. They are under the plywood, and we used 3.
I used 2/each to support a 4 x 4 "tent" for each of my chicken summer quarters to keep their feet dry.
Pallets are so sturdy, the building uses are innumerable, especially...
I gave my daughter my L200 Saturn Sedan, 2001 model, for Law School. It has 215,000 miles on it, and has had minimal work done on it. Certainly, the engine just keeps humming. They made a GREAT car, and many say that it was worth more$ than we paid for it.
My clothesline needs replacing, so I recommend one of them. I took a scrap piece of fabric and stitched a purse with a flap and big, wooden button, and strap to store my clothespins, and it still hangs by my back door.
You can buy an accordian, wooden, inside clothes dryer for delicates, or...
I haven't been on this forum in awhile, but I have been recycling, buying in bulk, etc. What I did was to calculate how much t.p., and all other non-perishables that me and my family consumes in a normal week, month, then x12 for the year. Locally, the best price for t.p. has often been at...
Ditto!! Have you tried planning for 8, or even 9 hours of sleep at night? You can actually do MORE when you are well rested. Phooey on these people that say they get by on 5--I see THEM crashing on the couch at night because they're beat!!
Ya know, wifezilla, WE could buy a coffee plantation...and live there happily!! :ya
I just wondered if it goes stale as quickly as coffee. We can't keep it around long enough to find out ourselves!!! :gig
:yuckyuck Made me laugh, old fashioned!!
I canned 8 more quarts of tomatoes, this time it was a mix of Romas and others. My small pear harvest was turning, so I cut out the bad spots (or ate them), cut up the rest, and canned two 1/2 pints of them, too.
We have already had our coffee discussions. My family drinks buckets (well...gallons) of iced tea and, in the winter, a lot of hot tea, too. I don't have a stockpile, but I'm considering stocking up. Any idea of how to store, or, if it goes stale quickly (or not)? I do have some space in my...
We sure dodged a bullet with the Trojan mess, but it did crash MY computer. Fortunately our computer guy cleaned it all up. Here I was, thinking the last malware straw was the survey I signed regarding GMO salmon!
Thanks for the replies and great advice! I don't NEED to make these windows, but I know that it will teach me a lot about window making and fixing. I have all the materials already, so it won't cost me any money to try.
This site on building an inexpensive indoor storm window, suggests making...
What great news!! Thanks!! :hugs
I am also canning masses of Roma tomatoes--no time to even make salsa or spaghetti sauce. It will be MUCH easier to make wine and the other stuff after the season is over. My house is gonna continue to smell great, even after the ground has frozen this year. :weee
About your ad-take the following out:
