I've been dehydrating for years and finally broke down and bought an Excalibur 3900 yesterday. Woohoo! Plus this year we have a huge garden going in.
So ... my question is: I'd like to put in pint (or quart) canning jars dehydrated fixings for soup (protein+grain+veggies), that Hubby can take...
My kid was unbearably mean to me last week. It had been coming to a head, arguing for 8-10-12 hours a day over schoolwork, taking 2 hours in the bathroom, being mean, reminding him to play with his service dog, etc. Yes, I understand his seizures are increasing in type and frequency but when I...
Yeah, I'd seen that a couple of years ago and it would be helpful (probably) if I had a big herd. Still doesn't help with the genes. I think a daughter can be mated to an uncle or grandfather without "inbreeding" problems.
Looks like I'll have to do more research.
Thanks for finding that again.
Am with Bee too. People who have an LGD probably have a good sized property, right? At least, I've been told that anything less than 35 acres is boring for an LGD. So could the dog possibly be everywhere in time to save every egg or chicken or chick? And personally, with the amount of snow we...
We finally have the goat babies gone, and now have our first Nubian doe. She's in with our Nigerian Dwarf x La Mancha buck (Buck #1) so will hopefully kid by the end of July. We already have Doe #2, a Nubian/Nigerian Dwarf cross, coming in the summer, and Buck #2, Nigerian Dwarf, coming in the...
Anderson Cooper's talk show comes on our tv at 4:00 weekdays. That's now. Today's episide discusses the doomsday preppers show, along with prepping in general, disaster preparedness and stockpiling.
Just FYI.
I've got food and water across the 6x10 kennel. Too close to the nest and the mice will go there instead, finding eggs to eat. As of this morning, she put herself back on her nest after her morning constitutional. Guess she just needed me to help get the ritual started.
My last two broody girls...
Day 4 of 21
She's still sitting on her 5 eggs: 3 creamy white and 2 blue. And still needs encouragement to go do a morning constitutional. Wondering if we should shoo her off tonight after dark and candle with a powerful flashlight? Never have candled before, but usually we have bigger hens...
Now comes the monotony.
Day 3 of 21.
Every morning, I need to lift this little thing off her 5 eggs and put her on the ground. She stays squatting for another moment so I have to gently move her again. THEN she remembers it's time to eat, drink and poop.
Left her and her friend to wander...
Have to wear gloves 24/7 for next 2-3 months. Wish I didn't have to. On 4th pair and boy are they disgusting. Waiting until I have 7-8 pairs to wash then will do them.
Eggs get slippery with cotton gloves.
Just started my own thread about my broody silkie girl! She started sitting on 5 eggs yesterday so today is Day 2. Figure March 11. This is our first broody silkie so I'm kinda nervous... she's so small!
I bought 10 bantam blue silkies and 10 bantam eggers last year. Cackle Hatchery. First batch arrived dead. Second batch, February, lost 5. Wanted to cross them to see what happened.
Ended up with 2 egger roos, 10 egger girls, 3 silkie roos (1 with messed up toes so he's a pet) and 4 silkie...
Boy am I late to the party!
I try to get offline before Hubby comes home from work. By then it's time for nighttime chores, dinner, rest, play with/train the dog and then early to bed. Cuz I'm old! Weekends I usually don't even get online at all, unless I've got a CL ad, like now (for goat...
