yea I still spend but nothing like I used too. I put the breaks on hard for "stuff"---but I gotta spend for groceries, gas etc.

I said before, alot of the little stores here are closing. All those little luxury service stores that tried to hold on and on, well they lost customers and can't make it so they close.

we have tons of those small strip malls down Hwy 16 that are 1/2 empty with lease signs on them.

but I can't save everyone. I want to, but can't---:/
I hear you. I wonder sometimes if I am even going to be able to save myself.

I ain't spending all my cash....I might need it later.
Once inflation takes off, that money will be worthless. Well, mostly worthless. It might make a good tp replacement.

I am spending every spare dime I can on non-perishable food.

Yep yep! I'm saving up to move, in a few months... and I like to have a month's expenses (so if I lose my job I can pay a month's rent while I find another job or escape)...

Beyond that saving money in this day and age seems pretty foolish.

As I have extra money, Zilla, I'll send to you to stock up as you are my likeliest place to run to :)

Thew industry I'm in is still doing ok. I'm a damage appraiser for an insurance company. My territory is in the south end of the Denver metroplex which is a fairly affluent area. The people I deal with seem to be doing ok. I have run across a few executives that are unemployed but they all have substantial savings and aren't selling their million dollar homes any time soon. I think the Denver area is in a lot better shape than a lot of the country. I actually ave faith that the economy is coming back around. You won't see the jobs come back until the employers are real sure the recovery is going to stick. So for the jobless it's tough. I do worry about the stock market dumping again though. They haven't done anything to stop them from doing the same stuff they did before. Then everyone is giving out huge bonuses with the bail out money. Different people running the same old never ending show.

no I am holding cash also. if I need it I got it. I doubt money will be worthless any time soon. It is not foolish to save money right now. best thing a person can do. not all, spend where appropriate but having that cushion will be needed definitely.

and survival items also. :p

and anyone wanting to buy my money for TP...has to pay in gold..HA HA HA

I agree with FarmerChick. A cushion is good, even if it is going to be worth less and less over time. It is better to have a cushion than to go into debt, should you find yourself without an income. Besides, living on less (because you are saving) prepares you for when money gets really tight . . . as in tighter in the future, which I see happening.

We Live in Arizona... I believe we are #2 on the list.
The economy is bad. My husband and I are truck drivers. Until recently, we both drove locally but a couple of weeks ago my husband was forced to go out "over the road" because driving a dump truck locally just hasn't been paying the bills like it used to. 2 years ago I was getting 55 hours a week and begging for a break. Last year I was lucky to get 30 hours per week and much of the time went with much less than that.
It's tough in the city in which I work, watching trucks coming up from OTHER cities to do work WE could be doing ourselves.

Here South Dakota, the economy is not that bad. I think the unemployment is among the lowest in the nation.

By the way, isn't this thread borderline against the "New Policy On Political Discussions"?

Arizona is high on the list?

Imagine that....You know who the governor for that state was (from 2002 until being nominated for Secretary of Homeland Security) don't you?....
