Preps for 2012

nothing different

If 2012 goes solar, or life stops or earth doesn't rotate for a week......then no one can prep or worry how to survive

so to each his own how they think about the crappola predictions always coming our way

normal preps in life are my daily worries---like that tornado, or that ice storm.

Can I make it if the world goes super nuts---I don't know...LOL

If I am alive my SS skills and know how and survival will kick in--hope I make it.

I live for today and prep a bit for normal life.

Good ideas on the board! :)

lol Dace that takes all the fun out of it! :p j.k. I do it that way if I don't feel like digging around for my little brick o'granite. :p

Oh, I forgot to mention hwillm, we grew up taking NAVY showers too. Easy in TX, not so easy in the pacific northwest in the winter, but I try. :D

Simple to fix up Farmerchick, mount a black, 55 gallon drum on a scaffold in direct sunlight. Put a pane of glass or thick clear plastic over the top.

Hook up a shower head to the hot from the barrel & the cold water line, fill it with water & take your shower in the later afternoon.

Gives you 55 gallons of warm to hot water. You'd probably have to temper it with some cold in the summer, depending on the heat of the day.

BBH, this is a little hi-jack to address the concern of smelly garlic fingers. Don't you know that stainless steel gets rid of the smell? When finished doing your garlic prep just "wash" your hands under running water, and rubbing a spoon over them like you would a bar of soap. Smell is gone! Rubbing your hands on a stainless steel sink will also work. Fancy kitchen shops have little bars of stainless that you can buy, but why spend the money when a spoon will do the job? Lemon juice or coffee grounds also work, but then you have to wash them off too
BTW, I think your garlic crusher granite find is inspired! Truly thinking outside the box.

I think if TSHTF the best thing a person could do to be prepared is to have survival knowledge. Learning about wild vegetation and what is edible and what would have any medicinal properties,..learning to trap, fish, and hunt,..start a fire without matches,.tanning hides,..primitive technology basically.Stockpiling stuff will only get you so far,...and someone else can always take it from you and staying in your home may not be an option. Knowledge and skills would and should be a must. ;)
