It’s February and finally my New Year’s resolutions. Plus left undone from previous lists. LOL

From 2023

1. Move 500 gallon diesel fuel tank and stand.
2. Move 4 power poles and assorted
pieces of drill stem pipe.
3. Move my windows. I will build a greenhouse out of them.
4 Finish moving Everything out of son’s house, have yard sale.
5. Get everything out of sons 2 shipping containers. Put in mine. LOL
6. Finish getting craptastic chicken coops in back torn down. I’ve torn stuff off several times and hauled off crap to dumpster. Still a lot to do.
7. Build fence after tearing down chicken coops. They are right on the fence line.
8. Tear down existing sheds.

That concludes 2023 list that I didn’t get done.

4. Have made major inroads, but not complete.
5. Have got a lot done, but not complete.

From 2024:

3. Move stack of used tin from son’s house.
4. Build a 3 sided 70’x20’ barn for sheep in front field, with 10’x10’ feed room in the middle. That’s going to take awhile.

A. Buy power line poles, cut to length.
B. Get friends to help set poles, go around bottom with treated 2x6’s, go around top with 2x6’s to hold poles so they don’t move.

C. Save up for plywood and new R panels for roof. LOL And more 2x6’s for rafters.
D. Haha, then hang rafters, plywood deck, radiant heat barrier and put R panels on.
E. Salvage what I can from old sheds to use on barn.
F. 2024 winter arrives! Wrap barn in plastic, command sheep not to eat it and to hell with it.

5. I have 2 40’ high cube shipping containers dropped in back field. I have to get everything moved from son’s house. I was not prepared for them. So once I do get old sheds torn down and build a pad for them, I’ll have to unload one, get 18 wheeler wrecker to move and set one, move everything back in (hopefully it won’t be much, gonna try to keep one empty) then move the other one.
6. Jack up, block and level shipping containers. After they are moved!

14. Buy some new lawn chairs.
15. Go to Waco, watch sheep and goat auction. The ones around here suck. Waco is 3 hours away. Other good sheep and goat auctions are farther away, in west Texas.

18. Put trim up in house. It’s starting to bug me.
19. Learn how to cut trim. Eff up some, get it right, do happy dance.

I bought trim and trimmed out the front door and door going to my bedroom. Still have rest of house to do. That was a short domestic surge.

20. Clean outside of house, vinyl siding.

#21. I have 5 HUGE burn piles from bulldozing front fence row to burn. They may be too wet now. By summer it will be too dry and a burn ban will be on. Neighbor has some too and he’s not having much luck. It may take until next spring.

I got 2 piles burned.

#23. Chainsaw and machete chop fence row on back field.
A. North side to corner post
B. Back fence to corner post
C. I’m gonna die…..

NOW for the 2025 list! I’ll just pile more stuff up on my list that I may or may not get done!

1. Right now I’m in the throes of emergency building a hoop coop for the 75 CCX chicks that I have nothing big enough to brood or raise them in. So far, I’ve robbed a cow panel and 3 hog panels from the sheep pen and replaced it with sheep and goat wire. Ordered and got a load of dirt, built a pad to raise coop above rain drowning level.
A. Next is to wreck out 2x6’s from the middle part of the shed that hurricane Beryl blew apart, to build the frame with.
B. Drag panels to front yard, bow them up inside the frame and staple in place.
C. Make a plywood back
D. Put hardware cloth on sides.
E. Build a door and a frame to hang it in.
F. Hardware cloth the front.
G. Tarp the hoop coop
H. Run extension cord out front window up through front porch rafters to hoop coop, to hang heat lamps from.
I pick up chicks on February 19. I’m an idiot.

2. Lambing now. 30 lambs so far with maybe 10 more ewes to lamb. Texas Katahdin club is having a field day in May. I’m taking lambs to sell, private treaty. So far, I’m keeping 13, selling 17. Not all will go to Tex Kats sale and Field Day, but I’ll need to halter break those that do go to the sale.
WILD SHEEP RODEO!!!

3. Take Buford T. Justice for OFA X-rays and testing. DNA test and microchipped.
This is done! X-rays look great!
Tried to “collect” him for possible future artificial insemination but he growled at vet and would not cooperate. They gave me plastic sleeves to practice on him. Oh joy. Will try again in a month or two. Got to teach Buford a strange man playing with his ding dong will be fun!

4. More ride in the truck lessons for Buford. He’s scared and shuts down. We will be going to a state park some 25 miles from here, where I can walk him around. Then maybe to Tractor Supply.

5. Build that darned barn! Have orders for 50 chickens. I’ll combine that money with lamb sales money and put up poles, rafters, roof as far as money will go.

6. Build breeding cage with top and bottom with horse panels, so visiting Anatolian females don’t climb or dig out and escape. Supposed to be one coming in March.

7. Learn how to operate son’s 100 Horsepower Kubota tractor so I can set round bales of hay.
DONE! Been on it 3 times, first 2, son walked beside me, telling me what to do. Third time he was gone and I set 2 round bales all by myself. Need to set 2 bales again this week.

8. Need load of rock for driveway. Probably won’t get this done. I’ll spend any money I get my grubby hands on, on a BARN.

9. Work on 2023 and 2024 list

Yup, money is the hold up on some of these. It would be so nice to have the money to just point, do this!

yeah, i just slept in three hours extra today for the first time in a long time. now after reading all that i'm ready to go back to sleep again.

since i can't help but to make suggestions... with those big burn piles could you hire a tree trimming crew for a day to come in and cut up and chip those piles so the wood chips could be used instead of burning them? wood chips have so many good uses whereas burning makes the problem go away but you then are also losing all those benefits. i do not recommend buying a chipper/shredder because small ones just can't get the job done and break down way too often for what you actually get.
