Wow 2Dream, you and are having the same frustrations today! :hugs

There is hope out there though. There are people, like those on this forum, who are raising their kids right, putting those priorities in order, and teaching about manners and common courtesy (sp??)

I do kind of think it would be neat if we all lived near each other on a couple hundred acres . . but then maybe it is better that we are spread out so maybe we can effect others around us to get their heads out of the clouds?

Haven't been here in a while ...

I'm over in Alabama and we didn't get quite that much rain.... or maybe that's what killed my potatoes.

About quiches, they're one of my favorite ways to use up leftovers!
Mushrooms, crab meat or faux crab meat, onions, bell peppers, garlic, ham, bacon; almost any dairy product -- cottage cheese, any variety of cheeses, sour cream, mayo, etc.

I know what you mean about rude people. A relative and I went on a little trip to visit some friends in northwestern TN. We kept looking at each other in awe -- EVERYONE we met was incredibly, incredibly NICE! Smiles on faces! So different from our local lives.

I'm glad you're there for your neighbor!:thumbsup

Ok - Whole new day - I will not be moody, I will not be moody.

Ordered a new pressure canner last night from Amazon.
I ordered the Mirro 22 qt. We looked at the All American and really wanted one but for the money and to accomplish our goal we decided the cheaper canner would work just fine. Right now our canner will hold 9 pints and 7 quarts. We really wanted to double our quart capacity but to do that we would have had to have gone with the 41 quart canner. With the 22 quart we can double our pint capacity and use the smaller canner for quarts. We will be canning fools this year.

On another up note. A landscaper at the condos where DH works has started farming on a large scale this year. His first year to sell at farmers markets and to local grocery stores. He is bringing DH 5 or 6 5 gal buckets of green beans. And boy is the price right. FREE.
Well not exactly free. His daughter is wanting a couple of chickens and he said he would love to have a few doz eggs. So I told him I have 3 Silkie/cornish cross that I will be more than happy to give him plus I have hens sitting and can give him some day olds soon.
Eggs are no problem since I get almost 2 doz a day and can't sell them all so the chickens eat lots of boiled eggs.

Dumb thing I did. I let the chickens out every afternoon to free range. At dark I go shut their gates. Well last night I forgot to shut them up. So they will be out all day today I guess. I can get the cornish up but not the EE's and Iowa Blues. No way are they going back in until tonight. Keeping my fingers crossed that the local hawk does not steal more than one.

I hope you had a great day yesterday!!!:hugs

You ordered the same pressurer canner that Mark gave me last year. I had a very small one before and passed that one to a friend.

I like it, mine has the pressure weight that can be turned for different weights.

Local to me, a friend bought one of those big fancy eletronic ones, but their canned food looks the same as mine. :thumbsup

Ya'll come on back anytime! That warms the bottom of my heart to hear such a nice compliment about my fellow Tennesseeans.

Hey 2D,

glad you are getting a new pressure cooker. My dad has 2 and we keep them busy at canning time.

I hope all your chickens come home safely.

First let me say that my silkies are blue and my cornish are white. This will explain Ugly Lucys colors.
She is the ugliest bird I have ever laid eyes on. She is white with black spots almost like a dalmation. Actually in the beginning before she grew up to be so ugly we called her Dally Girl. Short and squaty, feathers on her feet and black skin. She lays a beautiful off white egg every day. She has feathers like a cornish. The other two are fluffy like slikies and adorable. They look a lot like multi colored silkies. This came about from leaving my cornish bantums and silkies in the same pen for so long. We kept saying "got to seperate these birds". But time just was not on our side with so much other stuff that had to be done. Now they are seperated.

All chickens were in their respective homes and I remembered to shut the gates. LOL

Total computer frustration. I pay over a 100 a month for phone, cable and internet. My phone operates off my internet connection.

Never had a problem until about a month ago. My internet connection would go down occasionally. For a few minutes every morning. Then it went to an hour each morning. For the last week it has been off and on all day. Mostly all day. Yesterday I had phone and internet service for 2 to 3 minutes at a time. Today seems to be somewhat better but I will definitly making calls first thing Monday morning. Of course I will probably have to make them from somewhere else.

Now on to the new canner. First canning - the bottom warped. No I did not get it to hot. I followed the directions to a T. I knew better but I did it anyway. It said let it vent for 10 minutes. Well I did and all the water was gone at the end of the canning process.
I have never let a canner vent for more than 3 or 4 minutes. Since I was in the middle of canning I had to use it again. Let if vent for about 4 minutes and guess what. Water was still in canner and all went well.

I will also be calling the manufacturer in the morning. Probably won't do a bit of good since they are just going to tell me "you got it to hot". Well yeah, I guess I did - following their directions.

My old canner is 12 years old and I have never had a problem.

:barnie That is ridiculous. I would jump up and down over this. Be sure to get the name of the person you call on Monday, ask how to spell it, even if it is "Ann" or "Mary." That puts them on notice. Do this with each person you get passed off to.

My Presto canner instruction booklet says to vent for 10 minutes. I've never noticed ANY drop in the water level in the canner. Your canner must be defective.

If you need to, you can also tell them that you will be blogging about your experiences on a forum with 35,000 members and many more lurkers, so you are looking forward to writing about the fantastic service that Mirro gave you! ;)

Sheesh. And yikes!
