Rock hard pears?!?!?! Nobody eats those. Good lord

Not raw, many pears are best rippened off the trees, but that doesn't happen during one school day. When I was a kid we used to have throw-downs where we would throw various objects until the loser would sit or lay down when they had been hit to often. Rocks and stones were banned for things to throw and after one bad year we banned pears that were rock hard. A half ripe pear makes a very nice SPLAT. A rock hard pear makes a bruise.
Hard pears pouched in simple spiced sugar solution or in a sweet wine makes good eats.

I learned all about ripening pears this year. Finally got some before the squirrels did

We used to throw green apples and those hard green pinecones at each other

Yep, rock hard unripe pears.... don't know what they are thinking!
