Well we got a bad cold spell coming threw. The high today was below freezing. Tonight it's supposed to dip down to 14°f. Tomorrow night should be worse.

I didn't get much done today. Dressed out a couple old hens for the stew pot and got them in the freezer. The frost bite on my roosters comb had gotten pretty bad so I removed it. Hate to see him go threw that. He's too good a rooster.

Been thinking. I didn't grow many beans last year. I sure would like to put up a few pounds of pinto and black eyed peas. The black eyed peas from the grocery stores around here are bush type. I planted a bunch of them last summer with marginal results. I'm pretty sure the pinto from the store are pole type..

We have alot of fence line around the place. I'm going to put it to use this year and plant pinto beans along most of it. Hopefully we can put up 50lbs. I'm also tempted to round up a big plot, till it and plant the whole thing in black eyed peas. We eat alot of beans when we have them. And for the price of seed I can't see a down side

Commercial pinto beans are bush type for mechanical harvesting. Fresh pintos are so good!

It's supposed to be 14 degrees here tonight.

Peas and beans are easy to store, so you can't really have too much of either :)

alright I went ahead and got some limber tonight for this weekend. Didn't get much because I'm not sure exactly what I gonna build yet. Some kind of raised bed for sure. I got six 2×10s and six 2×4s. I'll post pics tomorrow after I get something done.

We lines the bottom with cardboard, chicken wire for the gophers, and put in a couple inches of broken down wood chips. Good dirt is high dollar. Idk what we are gonna fill it with yet. The compost piles are far from done
